ok just spoke to a guy im looking at buyin a cupra from and wanted to run it past you guys, it all sounds fantastic BUT he also said the following:

"the clutch pedal squeaks a bit but it probly just needs some lube"

how do i take it? :help:

do i still go to view the car or not? apart from this the car is 100% solid as a rock apart from a tiny bit of rust on rear arch! BUT full seat service history :funk:

it is a good car and he has a genuine reason for sale but what do i do about the "squeak"?

cheers in advance

the creaking clutch could be alot of things, could be the clutch cable or could be the "dreaded pedal box" where it breaks the shear bolts/if welded crap, sometimes breaks that too

do a search on here, it is a common fault/sh!t design, so unless it's been done, then it will happen to any of us lot :)

Yep, I concur... its either the cable or the box. Go for a look and you can easily check if its the box, remove that drivers tray thing, it just slides out then stick your head into the footwell and check the bracket where the cable runs through, try pushing the pedal with your hand and youll be able to tell straight away.

just needs some lube. how do i take it?

that just sounds wrong  mine creaks, its the cable rubbing against the side of the plastic gromet just above pedal box. i cut a little bit of the plastic away on mine to try and shut it up. didnt work

Mine was cured with a new cable, Word of warning , Check the new cable is tensed up. little clip just before the ratchet mech, Gearbox end. If its not, it will not work.. I find out the hard way! (On a Sunday)

If the pedal movement is smooth and consistent, then the pedal box is probably ok.

Mine went very light at the top and then became heavy when the pedal box went.

My clutch creaks :) but the pedal box is solid, a friend of mine reinforced it with quite a bit of welding :) I find a few sprays of silicon spray gets rid of it for a few weeks :D

Use it as a bargining tool. When i had the had the clutch and pedal box done on my 8v. Pedal box was £90....clutch was about £110 (i think)

I'd take it as they need doing mate and try to get him down on price.

My clutch squeaks but the pedal box is going nowhere.

Again you can shut it up for a short while with wd40 or the like but it will be back.

If you hear creaks and cracks then run screaming unless you have a hidden urge to be a contortionist and replace the pedal box.
