hi im thinking of buying a seat toledo and enjoy modifying, i was just wondering before i bought one:

Which is the best model to have, apart from the v5
What are they like to drive
Which part can you modify and what modifications can you do
Which parts should you not modify, e.g not using a oil based induction kit because of the maf.

Thanks

hi mate

i've got a v5 toledo and for your money you get a lot of car..the spec list is second to none..
the only downside is that as far as engine mods goes the money you will spend on the engine compared to the bhp you get back in return just isn't worth it.

you can do a lot to these engines but it costs a fortune for not a lot of bhp.

PD130 TDI

remap for £265 gives instant increase to 165-175bhp and a big torque increase to boot.

Add FMIC, decat, bigger exhaust, hybrid turbo etc etc see you upto 200bhp +

Cheaper to buy option would be 110 non-pd TDI.

Remap to 140 ish and again big torque increase.

But for more power need bigger injectors and bigger turbo.

:scary: never realised that you could get so much out of a diesel :)

anyone interested in buyin the dark destroyer :lol ?

If you can find one I'd go for the 1.8 20v Turbo - same engine as in the Leon Cupra so loads of tuning potential. It doesn't come with as many goodies as the V5 (like leather and electric seats) but it's definatley the best engine in the Tolly.

I have a 1.8 20vt i think its a good engine and the tolly its a decent ride. I get around 30mpg out of mine driving to work n back. On a run it will do 38 ish.
As been said there is plenty of tuning goodies available.
Id definately have another 1.8t. Try get one where the timing belt has been replaced and water pump as it will save you a few quid.

Excellent advice by all, its been really helpful, im definately going to get one, im leaning more to the 1.8t all depends where my funds take me.
Thanks

If you're restricted by funds, then patience and Ebay are your best friends. Keep an eye on the auction Tolly's, most have a reserve or a silly buy-it-now price, but every so often one will go unnoticed and sell for peanuts. It might seem risky, but with very few major faults on these cars you can afford to be a bit brave. I certainly wouldn't do the same for a Vauxhall or Ford for example!

You woudn't be able to do the same for Leons as they are a massively popular car. But Toledo's are almost the black sheep of the Seat family, and you might as well take advantage of it.

I found only one in my search and it had done 165k! And was being sold at a dodgy garage.

Would have loved one but are so rare :(

Has yours been remapped?

yeah got mine mapped about 3 weeks ago, 189.2bhp and 292lb/ft :D could have had more torque but the clutch would have died a death. it might be a little bit less now because he had to reset part of the map of it because the coil light was flashing, but didnt alter the boost or fueling so if it has dropped it should still be about 180 or so i reckon
