bypass egr valve

Hi can anyone tell me if i can block my egr valve off on a.1.4petrol engine (axp).problem is this is the 3rd egr valve it needs since last october and cant afford to keep paying for new ones.any help would be greatful thanks

what does it do that makes it fail. On my passat b4 tdi i just disconnected the solenoid and blanked off the egr feed pipe from the exhaust manifold. Ran much better, miles per gallon was better. Noticed on my brothers mark4 golf that it was absolutely caked in gunge so cleaned it out and blanked the feed pipe off too. I believe that some cars it may throw an engine warming light up when you bypass it however it can be mapped out.

Never gt any lights come on?the car runs like crap and cuts out below 2000rpm and plug my code reader and its saying egr position sensor

you sure your car has an EGR with it being petrol thought it was only Diesels that had them

Yeah they do i replaced mine a few weeks back. Cost me £130 for the part for me to find out later i could have just blanked the old one off! dammit!
