Bypass relay for tow bar

Hi guys has anyone fitted a bypass relay for towing rather than the full specific electrics? Want to fit a tow bar to my st fr for tip runs with a small trailer so not needing the full spec of a caravan. Had a search here and found bits of info but not much. Thinking of fitting myself, I’m an electrician so not concerned by the wiring just wanting info on if it works and doesn’t cause problems and also any help with wiring would be great as I can’t find a wiring schematic

I had one wired in by an auto electrician on my previous 2016 stand recently on my 2019 st. Haven't had any issues on either. Just have to turn parking sensors off when reversing as anti collision braking won't let me move. He took the 12v feed for the relay from the back of the 12v socket in the boot.

I've fitted a couple of towbars with dual sockets on canbus cars and the bypass relay was one the easier parts, if you fit on the side the main loom arrives in the boot and identify all the circuits you need it only takes 30 minutes.

Thanks for the advice guys. Is the main loom on the near side of the car? Andye1 where abouts are you just wondering if the auto electrician you used was anywhere near me in West Yorkshire. I plan to get a witter detachable bar as it seems to be the smallest and least visible cut

Hi mate. I'm in Derby so not much use for you unfortunately. I fitted the witter detachable bar on both cars. My new one already has the aperture in the bumper so no cut needed. On my old 2016 st the cut required was small, just on the underside of the FR bumper so hardly visible at all.

No worries was worth a shout. How long do reckon it takes to fit did one on my 06 focus years ago which was a doddle but equally wasn’t really bothered about the car actually like this and want to keep it mint

They had my car for 2 hours. Probably didn't take that long.

Should work your lights, but obviously your Trailer Stability Program won't work. Need dedicated wiring for that.

But the bullet booked in for fitting rather than mess around myself. Thanks for the info. Fitters recommended for what I was doing go bypass relay so that’s what I did. Fingers crossed all good. Thanks for advice guys
