ive read the procedure for changing the cam belt on a TDI, and it says you need to take the front bumper off, amongst other things. well i recently had my belt changed by a Seat dealer and it doesnt look as though they took the front bumper off. do they know a trick to doing it without taking the bumper off?

I had my cam belt done by a mobile mechanic, and I'm sure he didn't take the bumper off.

I couldn't tell you how they DID do it though - sorry :(

nah they dont take the bumper off at all, only the bigger vag stuff the bumpers need to come off like a4, a6, passat etc because they are mounted longitudinal

It is likely that the manual will say remove the front bumper, as it does improve access to the engine. But if you're happy to work in an enclosed space, you will probably get away with it.

I will say that removing the front bumper is actually not that difficult, and it's easy to line back up again when you're finished. It's not like other cars where you're likely to break the various clips and end up with a loose bumper. The front bumper also has a 'service setting', basically you replace two of the bolts with longer bolts, and the whole thing slides forward six inches. It give you the clearance you need but without the worry of dropping the bumper. Of course, I have no idea where you get the longer bolts from, SEAT dealer probably?
