what is everyones view on when to change cambelt, getting mixed popinions, seat say 100,000!!

4 years or 60,000 miles i'm sure.

Mines on 4 years with 43,000 miles and its in for its cambelt and waterpump next week.

I bought the parts from Sere Motors on the forum (much cheaper), then going to get garage to fit them.

Me personaly, id get it done mate if it exceeds this. Even if jst 4 'that piece of mind'

mines only done 42,000 and ive had mine done. its not just the money its the hassle and being without my car while its being rebuilt. 60,000 or 4 years is what my local seat dealer told me confirming what i found out on here

Had mine done at 40k, car is only just 4 years old so felt like it was to soon, but water pump was showing signs of cracking, cam belt was changed but i reckon it would have lasted alot longer,it looked ok, didnt want to take the chance though, water pump could have given up any time though looking at its condition.

Just bought mine, and had the cambelt and waterpump done. I say if a car is 5 years old or over 55k its time to start thiking about changing them. Id rather pay the price for that than a new engine when it snaps!!

cambelt

thanks guys, mine is on 71000,bought from garage on 65500,need to find out when it was last done,i shall investigate.

thats what i thought, very extreme.ive got 71000 on clock, need to check if was done before i bought it,garage i bought it from wouldnt chaange when iasked, said it didnt need it,tight arses!

The wifes car is having the cambelt done next weekend (2003 1.4) and looking at all the cambelt threads they say to change the water pump to a metel impeller one. Can i get this from my local seat garage or if not where from and how much are they.
Or do i just get a new one from the dealer even if it's plastic and also how much would this one cost.

Cheers
Andy
