Can anyone advise what the correct interval is for changing the cambelt on a 1999 (old shape) 1.0 AER engined Arosa ?

Several dealers give several different answers !

Any idea of how many hours labour is recommended ? And I presume the standard practice is to change the tensioner and water pump at the same time ?

What is the typical charge for this job ?

Thanks guys !

Details can be found in the owners manual / service interval guide.

Mine states every 60,000 miles for a 1.4 16V AFK engine.

Remember: its better to be safe than sorry though, if you not done it in over 4/5 years will be worth getting it done. The price of a cam change is way cheaper than a new engine! ;)

Mine was done at 38k when my friend owned it. Then again at 54k when I bought it from him. Most cars are between ever 30 - 60k depends really

It varies between 40k/4 years and 60k/6 years depending on who you ask. But considering what can happen if it goes, its worth changing it every 40k/4 years to be on the safe side :)

And yes, best thing is to change all tensioners and water pump to - it can be quite expensive though, around £300 in some places! But other places are alot less (I had mine done (without the water pump) for under £200, which included a big service)

Totally agree, thats the best thing to do.

I got mine done at 4 years old with 28K on the clock.

I got mine done on my TDi for about £150 including parts. Although its a friends garage so i got it for less than it should have been.

40K or 4 years is a short time, especialliy if you do a fair few miles, but it beats paying thousands to have the engine rebuilt.
