For the past 2 days everytime i go to start the car it just won't fire up, then i get a loud pop from the exhaust and smell of fumes but then on second attempt it starts up fine.

Assuming this will be the camshaft sensor as it flagged a fault up on Vagcom about a week ago, so would a sensor like this be ok to use, or is this a nasty ebay jobby, and I should go to the dealers?

Go to the dealers.... Or tps... But buy genuine sensors... These cars hate copy's and just don't work we'll with them!!

Sorry to say it but its true! Take the pocket hit once... Rather than 'save money' buying cheap... And buying twice!!

It's called a Gxx on vagcom, ask for that, iirc the crank sensor is a g28... And so on... Can order sensors like that without part numbers.
