Hello everyone!
I have a 2016
Seat Ibiza FR and I was wondering whether it's possible to get CarPlay in my car without having to change the head unit. Are there people out there who can add software to the vehicle to enable this function or is a new head unit required
Many thanks!
Ben
New Headunit. CarPlay requires a processor. If Seat were to include the costly processor in the Headunit, they'd may aswell just enable the feature. UNLESS it's onboard and coming by way of update. Though if its anything like Vauxhall, I'd be worried that update never comes. Anyway...
To answer other things you're probably thinking;
Can I retrofit a Seat Headunit with CarPlay built in?
(I don't even know if Seat do a CarPlay unit, but say they do...) Anything is possible for a price.
Would it be worth retrofitting an OEM Headunit for CarPlay?
Probably not, past experience suggests you'll be looking in excess of £2000. You'd no doubt need additional wiring looms, programming AND the OEM Headunit.
Can I get CarPlay another way?
Yes, most recent Pioneer (and other) Headunits include CarPlay and/or Android Auto.
Is CarPlay any good?
For an Apple product, its distinctly average. They tread a fine line between road safety and functionality. Road safety prevails meaning tCarPlay is basic, ugly and requires a hell of a lot of frustrating conversations with Siri! However, it is in its infancy.
