Can't get in car - key died?

Hi guys,

I drive a 2014 Leon FR 184, I drove to work fine this morning, got out of the car and pressed the lock button on my key fob but nothing happened. I tried the door and it is definitely locked. It won't unlock either.

Basically the key fob does nothing but the door is still locked? Is this just because my key battery has died or is it something to do with the central locking system? Why did it seem like a good idea to put no external locks on the doors?? So I can't even use the key manually. Any suggestions?

There's a hidden manual key barrel under the drivers side door handle. You just need to pop the cover off (the part of the handle that doesn't move) and it's there where you'd normally find it
