Car Noisy After Accident

Hello there,

Very new at this whole forum thing but I need some advice. We currently have an 2008 Altea ref Sport tdi in Black. About 3 months ago my darling brother decided it needed a face lift and drove it up a banking and into a hedge. Luckily he and his passengers were ok and the car only had minor damage, but it had to go away on a recovery truck to the body shop (Parks of hamilton - avoid them like the plague). Anyways two weeks past and we got the call that the car was ready. So i toddled off to their premises and picked the car up. However, when I got the car back to the house, and once it was defrosted, I could see what they had done. They had left the bonnet misaligned with the bumper (Still not entirely fixed) , not attached the washer hoses to the pump so that when you washed the rear window you instead washed the ground and they also some how managed to miss the suspension damage as you had to drive at 11 o'clock to go in a straight line. So we had to get all this fixed but the car is much, much nosier than before and when in the driving seat (side of the damage) you feel that the engine is at your feet. I remember that just after the accident there was a bit of what looked like sound insulation in the shape of a half T on the ground but I questioned park's and they have no knowledge of what I am talking about. Is there such a part or am I making it up LOL :p

The Car needed the following:

New O/S/F wing
New Front Bumper
New Tray under the Engine
New O/S Steering arm
New O/S Mud guard inside the wing as this had been ripped out.
New O/S Head Lamp
New O/S Fog Lamp
New O/S lower grill

Can anyone think of a Part that may have been missed with this sort of Damage???

Any help would be appreciated.

I believe the part you are referring to is the "underbody lining". Or put simply the large plastic panels that sit under the main floor pan on each side. These come in two parts each side. You could try looking under the car on both sides, there should be a plastic covering on both. It sounds as if the offside is missing

My info only goes up to 2006 but I am sure this part is probably still the same in 2008. The part numbers are: Large panel 1KO 825 201M (left) and 1KO 825 202G (right)
Small panel 1KO 825 271A (left) and 1KO 825 272A (right)

Trust this helps.

Thanks for your reply,

I checked and it is definitely there, It was replaced as it was ripped out and sitting in the boot. but there was an other bit out of the car it was small and hard foam like and very light (slightly bigger than the size of your hand) and I think that this is the bit that is missing. Should there be any sound deading stuff between the engine and the cabin?

Thanks

The only part I can find is a sound absorber fitted within the front wing, between the wing and the inner wing liner. This looks something like a "T" and appears to be made of foam. Part No 5PO 864 237A. Looking at the details of the parts replaced this part could easily be the item you found on the ground. Not sure how you can check if it has been fitted. You could trying checking from within the engine bay where there are some holes that enable you to see the inside of the wing panel.

I cannot see any other soundproofing that could be missing.

Brilliant!!

I am going to call the bodyshop and ask if they fitted it and also cause the washer bottle is still leaking, and I shall also have a wee look as well if I can see any holes.

i shall let you know how it goes.

Just thought I would let you know that you were 100% correct with the sound absorber part. Have been and spoken to the body shop and they have accepted that they missed it, blamed it not being on their system. However, they have ordered the part and wil be fitted later in the week.

Once again thanks so much for your help.
