i'd say starter motor......your engine should still turn over if the alternators gone and you still have battery power. Have you checked the voltage coming out of your battery? Try knocking the starter with something or sticking it in gear and rock it backwards/forwards a couple of times.

mine started doing it agian and it was the ignition switch, bit of ass to change though but was only about 20 quid
