Thanks for this. I've had a HPI done by the dealer(see info below) but many thanks for that. Luckily mine has 12,000miles on it not 30,000miles :)

whats the 3 ways they have lied to you?
1 - is the stolen/hpi thing.
but what are the other 2?

Twice not three apologies, and about the same thing. Once before purchase, once when I asked why 3 alloys were kerbed.

I think lied to is a bit strong. I know you're angry, but they told you it was HPI clear and it is.

They'll probably just delete your email, which is ok cos you don't need the HPI check now anyway, but in future you're probably better going in and talking to someone - they'll be more inclined to help.

Just my two-penneth. No offence intended.

Yeah, lied to might be a little strong. Happily I have a good dealer who didnt (dont) delete my emails aha. They have always been inclined to help and have so today.

I had a phone call from the branch manager about 2 hours after my email.

He explained that a manager was using the car while it was a demo and it was stolen from the drive with the keys. Hes not sure when it was found but assumes it would be a few days as the car was fitted with a tracker. Hes done a HPI check and sent me it explaining that while it is on the PNC it wont be on any HPI's(as said above) because insurance didnt have to pay out.

I thought it would be that. In all fairness it's not on the hpi but still the fact it has been stolen. I wouldn't want it if it had been stolen.

Yep, I'd be pushing for some form of compensation if they sold you a car without telling you it had been stolen before you bought it. I'm sure Seat UK wouldn't be happy with one of their dealers doing such a thing either, perhaps worth mentioning that to teh dealer to see if they want to sort it out between yourselves before escalating it

Nice compensation claim to be honest if you had not been pulled you would have never known until you went to sell it as could have been on hpi and would have never known

So the dealer was fully aware of the cars history including it being stolen.
They stated it was HPi clear, which while not incorrect is a play on words given the knowledge they had of the car.
Its also fair to say that while it is buyer beware for private sales, dealers have a duty of care to act accordingly and make you aware of anything that you should be aware of. It would be at the very least good practice to keep you informed, the other end of the scale is deliberately being misled.

Id go down the route that you brought from them due to their reputation and professionalism, that the extra you paid going through them brought you confidence in the product and service and this has been a shock and a let down. You feel misled and now lack confidence in the car... and see where that takes you.

He’s not suffered any monetary loss

Not yet I agree.

However - now that the OP knows the car has been previously stolen he has a duty to tell any prospective buyer that asks.

Then he will suffer a loss in value compared to a clean history car.

Potentially the OP could end up being prosecuted if someone buys the car from him having not declared its previous history.

And I guarantee that if you try to px it in to a seat dealer - they will know it has been previously stolen and stuff the value accordingly - If they will take it at all !!!!

You want the difference in price refunded really, say cars worth 8000 but due to stolen recovered only now worth 7000 you want the 1000 difference plus extra for situation as can say would never have got it if you knew and that they never informed you etc... If you get money back in return then when you come to sell it it won't come from your pocket would have come from seats
