Most likely at work
Well not 'never' but...

anyway, this is the 2nd time this has happened.im slowing down at a roundabout,and my car just stops working,stalls if you like. engine light flashes,oil light flashes, and it stops.

when turning the key it turns over fine, the battery is fine, but it doesnt actually ignite i.e. switch on.

i waited 10 mins the first time and tried again and it magically started working,with an engine management light on...after which the light disappeared.

the 2nd time i was half way getting towed home and i turned the ignition and it fired up fine. EPC light came on and now iv left it to get VAG COM'd.

what could it be???iv never heard of this at all!

cant be a coil pack as it doesnt chug or anything,MAF is working fine,battery is fine...

could it be electrical?could it be my alternator?
or something like oil going where it shouldnt be?

help please!!!!!:help::help::help::help:

crankshaft position sensor or sometimes called engine speed sensor, 90% sounds like this to me! what your describing is the problems it causes. Get it checked out on a diagnostic machine for fault code. Then you can be sure whats causing the problem, once its been changed, get it put on a diagnostic machine again and get the fault code cleared.

i had an error with that before,and got the garage to replace it!but this was ages ago....

got the error scanned by VAG COM.

this is the error;

Camshaft A (intake) - Retard set point not reached.

what does that mean?timing?wiring?cambelt related?

yeah i did.camshaft positioning sensor. the garage replaced that a while back.been fine ever since.

now iv been reading up on the rosstech website, they say that it could be the camshaft adjustment valve or the fuel pump relay....

is that big money or is it a simple fix?

hey im having the identical problem, i changed my fuel pump relay and that didnt mend it, im cheaked every fuse, taken my ecu out and cleaned all the pins, cheaked all the earths but the only difference is now after it stoped wanting to start completely dont get an engine light at all when i turn the key even one knotch so i cant get my vagcom to communicate with it:(

When my Ibiza cupra did this it was Crankshaft position sensor.

I replaced mine and it went again about 9 months later......turns out there was a dodgy batch and I got it replaced for free by Seat so it could well be that.

im hoping its that....and now i dont know if its a different issue,but im getting blue smoke on startup, and after a while its white smoke,and my exhaust sounds burst again.im guessing thats a different issue...everythings piling up at once...Seats eh!

got an update,aparently its my camshaft adjustment valve..the variable valve timing thing has gone knackered,and the part is £293 odd? add this with labour and a sensor at £70 odd and vat, its coming to around £740... does that seem right?

im horrified...

All i can say is get another quote and see how it compares. Original parts are expensive though just look at mafs there £75.

its J Gracies (vag specialist) in duntocher...

i went to another garage for cheap jobs but they ended up messing up on a few things...kinda put me off cheap people really...
