Brad are you handy with these kinda things, You seem to know loads about them LOL
yea there is plenty. it looks abit difficult, especially with all that standard shite pipework in place but its sooo easy to do. its hard to explain on here. ill try and take a pic 2moro.
the catchcan has to have 19mm inlets and outlets aswell as 19 mm internal diameter hose which is oil resistant. any lower and the system wont breath properly. some people have gone smaller with no issues some have issues. IMO its best to replace with the correct size.
its gonna cost you around £60 to remove all the old shitty breather pipework which will fail eventually as heat and oil contamination on these hoses are taking its toll on these cars. this can cause anything from loss of boost/rough running to a smokey exhaust.
I hope this does cure your problem but don't be to disappointed if it doesn't. like I have said previously its every possibility it could be a turbo or piston ring/valve stem seal problem but you may as well rule this out as its the least expensive and very probable it could solve your issues
Loss of boost??? Hmm I put up a thread a while back where if driven hard it seems my boost getting cut around the 4th gear area,
You can hear the turbo spool down for a couple of seconds and then spool up afterwards could this be another clue?
I assumed it was my inlet temps being to high intercooler not being up to the job so the ecu is cutting boost
yeaa you can have boost issues and limp mode due to the breather pipework. lumpy idle, cutting out, generally running rough to name a few
Update!!
okay i have replaced the breather pipes! i must say the old ones looked it breathed okay but in grubby condition, this hasnt seemed to do much,
the smoke has changed in a way (may sound daft but here goes)
as before it would puff on pulling off and hitting low boost in second, now it only seems to do it when your coming down the low revs to stop, it is still blue in colour and i am still going through oil fairly quickly,
i shouldnt have done so but i need to take a 200 mile round trip yesterday, when i got to my destination i let the car have a 5 min cool down before cutting the engine, the car sat turned off for around 10 mins and after leaving to head home i pulled in a lay by around 500 yards from the destination to sort a few things out, the needle was reading 90 so it was still at normal temp but there was a stream of smoke coming out, like a blown out candle but much bigger! but this was white in colour
i was in south wales where the weather was around 18 degs a nice and shiney but the destination was horrible and raining, maybe this have effected it but i have no ideawheres next gues??
I thought White smoke was head gasket?
its a shame, but at least you know its not the breathers not. could be turbo is knackered. or maybe a blown headgasket but a failed headgasket on these engines is highly unlikely. does it show any of the usual headgasket signs? ie creamy oil cap, coolant in the oil or oil in the coolant, overheating etc?
not necessarily could be a knackered turbo aswell.
