Ok so ive been searching through the forum for answer to this and it should be one of these two! Thing is the posts i found were a couple of years old so wanted to check if you guys new any better.

Basically driving for no more than 5 minutes and then the car really started to struggle, engine light came on and into limp mode.

Pulled over and an emense smell of rotten egg! Had to look around for a few minutes before i realised it was coming from the car!

Ive been having problems with my exhuast blowing for a while which made me think the CAT. But reading posts on here made me think it could be a coil pack because it sends unburt fuel into the CAT causing the smell?

Can anyone shed anymore light? Also the posts in 2002 were stating how hard it was to source a coil pack! and how expensive a new CAT was!

was really struggling like it was missing, engine shaking like it wanted to escape!

didnt want to go trough the revs just incase it was cambelt or something. Got it on the flat bed and brang it home

probably did the best thing, all that unburt fuel ent good for your cat deffo think its a coil pack change, just need to find which cylinder now lol, number fours a bitch cos of charge pipe, ive had 7 go on me now but im runnin 201 bhp so there bound to go, keep 2 spares in my boot i suggest you buy a spare just in case

cheers for your help. is it better to buy a genuine or is a pattern part ok? any ideas on price or brand?

better to go to the dealer mate there only 20-25 quid the make is bosh and part number is Coil Packs: 06B 905 115 R they used to be a design fault in them but have now being modified so make sure you ask for a new one take it your fitting your self?

Deffo sounds like a coil pack - your description fits what happened to me when i lost two coil packs.

The good thing is that these things have a five year warranty on them so go and visit the dealer!

Sorry to hijack the thread but would you get this eggy smell on a sports cat or just the standard cat? Nothing wrong with mine (fingers crossed) just thought id ask while were all on the subject!

be quick though its border line havin a 02 for warrenty ,mine ran out last year but have not had one go this year fingers crost, have a look at your spark plugs to, check there NGK ones, havin non standard spark plugs can cause them to blow

just had this the other day to mine its defo coilpacks mate. to check which one it is pull the plug on the injectors one at atime you will notice a change in how the engine changes the one with the fault wont change how it runs. really easy to fix (change)

over 3 years but below 5 years old, you need to get the car to the dealer for them to confirm its a coil pack and then get permission from seat to claim on warranty, - which is a pain given you shouldnt drive with a dodgy coil pack. if was was less than 3 years they may have got AA to move car or replace it.
one tip, i found out this week. get one from skoda, saved me £5+ per coil pack for exactly the same part. even comes in the same box.
cost me £24 including vat. audi, seat and vw wanted £24 plus vat!

interestingly some of the audi dealers were still selling the older 'L' coil pack too, others even refused to quote as i didnt have an audi... oooeeerrrr!
