Hi peeps

Drove car to station this morning as normal but when I tried locking car...nothing!

Is this fuse 38? Could it be anything else?
Red light on remote flashes so assume remote okay? Or do I need new remote battery?

Car is delocked and I did relocate the fuse to inside of car.

Was in a rush for train so climbed through hatch and locked car from inside and all doors locked, then locked hatch. Surely if all doors locked from the drivers door button it's not fuse 38??

Bit puzzled and it was dark and I was half asleep!

cheers

I'd change the battery anyway and check the contacts to make sure they are ok inside the fob first. The battery LED still might flash but it does no have enough power to unlock/lock etc..

If it isn't fuse 38 it's either 13 or 14 (can't remember which, but one of them two) they are in the smaller fuse section and its 10a i think from memory.
Have you changed an interior bulb recently? This happened to mine once so i removed the brake light fuse and swapped them to lock the car, then swapped them back to drive to a place where i could replace it.
Hope this helps.

Thanks for the input guys.

As you say might just be fob battery even though red light works.
No other electrical oddities or changes with car.

What's the battery type?
Also thinking of buying a new fob too, ideas of cost anyone?
:)

Battery will be CR2032, can get 5+ cheaper on ebay than a local garage charges for 1.
New fob can cost anything from £12 to £40. Quite often just the remote part comes up on ebay for about £15-£20 delivered.

Probably about 50 times more expensive than a 10amp fuse ;)
I think Vagparts sell the batterys, but you will need to resync the key to the car once the battery is removed, so that means putting the locking barrel back in FIRST. I'd not change the battery unless its really needed if i was you mate.

No you have so many minutes to swap the battery don't you?. It's not instant the minute it's removed?.

Blimey, a few things to consider then.

1) Original barrel binned thanks to attempted (but failed) theft.
So rather than replace, I got delocked.

2) My fob is the flip key one... according to dealer circa £120 for new flip key cut and then prgrammed. I do want a spare anyway though.

3) I opened my flip key, nothing obvious battery wise, looks like a sealed unit???

hurmph!!

A new flip key won't cost that much, that is dealer prices. Like I said search ebay.
Mine cost about £50 all in. (However transponder was coded for free by a dealer for with another key issue I had).

The battery is inside the remote part when you pull it apart from the key section. It does split in half again.

You gonna have some fun if you ever need to resync if you have no barrel. That is going to be tricky :)

Right i had the very same problem end of last year which was down to the fact i had delocked the door, there is a ring of metal that slides around the barrel and holds it into place. Is the solid lock barrel loose at all?
My disc has moved out of position and fell into the door, effectively leaving it possible to remove the barrel with your fingers! i had to take the inner door panel off to recover it, take the door handle off the door and slot the disc back into position, needless to say the solid barrel has not been put back in due to the damn hassle it caused!

Check search as there is a recent thread on key fob issues. Sounds like simple battery replacment in fob to me Panasonic no as quoted above is £3.50 ish from Halfords. Change over no need to recode. Job done if you're lucky. ;)

Ok will have another look at fob, thanks.

Dealer said fob would be coded by computer which should have my 'code' on record. I have my normal key which has the black tag with code on plus my flip key..is that not enough? Isn't this coding for when key is in ignition and disables immobiliser. So is door barrel coded too? Not that I ever used apart from window operation which I sort of miss:cry:

No the coding the dealer mentions is for the immobiliser only. It has nothing to do with the remote part of the fob. This will be unaffected by any battery fail or swap over etc.. You don't have to replace any of this part. Even if your remote section no longer works you can buy this seperately anyway. The key blade and immobiliser can still be used.

The door barrel however is needed to resync the remote part of the fob to the cars central locking system but I again doubt this will be affected by a simple battery swap unless you leave it out for awhile. Instructions for this are in your owners manual.

Have a search for the fob threads, loads of info about prices and procedures.

Have you got a normal spare key ?

If so, but a flip key from Ebay (got mine for £12.50), take the transponder out of your spare key, put it in your new flip key.

Program the central locking (few key presses, see Ibiza thread for more info) - then get the blade cut to fit the barrel.

About £20 all in.
