Changing clutch cable on 8v gti

The clutch cable on my 8v gti cupra is really bad. Its really notchy when lifting off the clutch pedal which is making it impossible to get the correct biting point and cant be too good for the car atm :(

I guess changing the clutch pedal would sort this and I have bought one but I was looking in the haynes and it looks like quite a pain to change. Is it something that I (or me and my dad) could change ourselves fairly easily or is it something im better off taking to a garage to get done?

I rang seat and they said it would take about 1 and 1/2 hours so cost about £97.50 just in labour + they might not use the cable I bought so it could be another £30 on top of that for a new cable!

Ive really gotta do something about it soon cos its driving me crazy [:@]

I have to reverse up my drive which is fairly uphill and keep stalling it

I think it's worth investing in a haynes.. it's not a major job, just fiddly & certainly not worth £100!

your dad can read you the instructions while you contort your hands in funny angles & you cut your skin to ribbons :D

hell yea, its a rite of way, knuckles are not allowed to be left unscathed.
even a back street garage could do it for less than 40 quid.
i know its not exactly the same, but ive replaced accelerator cables etc on my trackday nova (now sold) and they were 2 min jobs.

 yeah that sounds about right

Ive got a haynes its just from reading it, seems to be quite alot to it but if its not really that bad then ill give it a go. My dads offered to take a day off next week to help so ill hopefully get it done then.

Also when I rang seat they mentioned checking the pedal box for broken welds but is this really a posibility with these symptoms? ive had a quick look under there but it all looks solid to me.

My first car was a nova and I changed the clutch cable and accelerator cable on that but to be fair, they were far far simpler compared to the ibitha ones by the looks of things.

Its more than doable for a DIY owner. I went to SEAT and bought the cable from the parts department.... couldn't be bothered fitting it (I'm lazy) so paid a local garage 20 quid to fit it. BARGAIN. The difference afterwards is amazing. I'll do it myself next time if I can be pestered :)

yea i think theres 2 cables not sure but the dealer sold my dad 2 and told him to take the wrong one back. i fitted mine myself its just a case of unhook and hook the new one back on... almost... hmm

you will be abe to do it though, even if it takes you more than an hour and a half itd stll be 100 you saved
