changing engine oil on a 1.4TDi

Is there any way of changing the engine oil on a 1.4TDi ibiza without having to suck it out via the oil filter???

Can i not just drain it off like a petrol?

This is the 1st diesel i've owned so i ain't got a clue!

Is there not just a sump i can unscrew and drain it???

I don't want to change the oil filter though

yes diesel's have a sump plug

just drain it as normal and replace the filter

fitting a new sump ring is a good idea or just warm it up with a blow torch to make it supple again

Why would you not want to change the filter? they are only £5 from the dealer.

there was a video on here months ago of some guy changin oil on a 1.9 tdi, think it was a passat using a special syphon tool that made it look easy.

If you don't change the filter, you'll have oil with bits in it very shortly!
