Changing sump pan

Im gonna change my sump on tuesday as the previous owner has knacked the threads on the sump plug meaning i cant get the oil out. Is there anything i should be aware of, im a novice working on cars, normally pay a garage but instead of this im buying tools and attempting things myself. Is it just removal of sensor, undo all the bolts around the base and drop the sump pan, slightly oil the gasket, place onto supm pan and refit??????? any advice would be fantastic

If the plug is not actually leaking have you thought about using a PELA pump to extract the oil ?. They cost around £30 and save you having to remove lower engine cover and struggle around under the car.

No gasket they are sealed to the engine so you need clean all the old stuff off and re apply but not to much. The bolts that go up gearbox end you can either get a long ball ended 5mm to get them out or rotate the flywheel until the channel is visable and you can see the bolt.

If you doing this check and clean the oil pick up line/gauze as its will more than likely be blocking/dirty

the plug is leaking all over my drive redkite, it seems to be getting worse so its gonna have to be changed. Techie, flywheel????? this sounds a bit out of my league mate, in step by step should i:

1: remove 2 bolts from oil pick up
2: remove 3 bolts from oil sensor
3: remove the big bolts going through the bell housing into the side of the sump
4: remove the little bolts all round the sump base

Then the sump should drop out????????

5: clean the old liquid gasket off the block
6: liquid gasket the new sump
7: clean gauze on oil pick up
8: refit in reverse order to removal

what tools exactly are needed?????

How did this job fair up armo? Did you manage to sort, and seal up good? I might be facing a similar peril! Not quite sure how to PM so sorry to bring this old thread back up tot the front

Get the old plug out then helicoil it job done
