Does anyone have any experience of replacing their plastic lower oil sump pan with a steel replacement such as this ECS tuning variant?

I've had a minor oil weep from the car that's been driving me mad for nearly 2 years. Finally got round to changing the oil, filter and sump plug myself this week and found it's weeping from a very small impact on the front middle of the plastic sump. I'm loathe to shell out for another £200 for a VAG plastic pan on a 7 year old car given the state of the tracks I drive on when a steel one may hold up better!

Many thanks

Perhaps buy a sump guard, there are metal ones to be had.
Sumps used to be robust but increasingly they are very not.
