Charging from glovebox

Has anyone successfully used the USB port in the glovebox to charge up a phone?

I plug mine in and it's switches from charging to disconnected and back every couple of seconds, as though the power from the USB port isn't constant.

I am struggling to find a use for the port - I plug a USB drive with sound files on into it and the stereo doesn't seem to see it and now it's seeming as though I can't charge from it either.

I have checked that the cable that I was using to try and charge with is working correctly.

i gave up with mine and replaced it with a 6 disc cd changer

@S70DGE did you go for a OEM one or other? I have been looking into one of those Android units from ebay as a solution to my problem.

went for an OEM disc changer that fits straight in once you you remove the usb thing the changer is out of a 1Z or Mk2 Skoda Octavia cost me about £25 fits straight in no wire mods or anything just plug n play
