We all know about the wind noise from the ibiza coming from both windows, here is how i fixed it

I bought some plain black rubber car mats from Asda (set of 4)

Cut a long strip about 0.5 inch in width of each mat from the edge of each mat

put both your windows down (3 door ibiza)

Next using a pencil or anything long and not sharp  ;)

Pull back the fabric like material going verticaly and horizontally across the window and place the rubber strip behind this ensuring it is flat down. If the fabric starts to buldge out then the rubber strip you have cut is too thick and will need cutting down abit.

If should fit in the open space neatly and perfectly and is completly hidden from view.

Both windows still work fine and do not catch on the rubber at all. Rubber was used as it is flexiable, easy to cut, and wont absorb water like the black fabric i used before.

I have noticed massive improvements, and no longer need my music high to avoid hearing a realy annoying whistle like sound.

I belive it works by preventing the air from getting in the gap and causing alot of noise.

Please note - you dont have to buy rubber car mats, just any rubber will do, i just happaned to have a unused set lying about and suddenly fought of this idea

Hope this is of some use to someone

P.S takes about 10 minutes max to complete, very easy job with nothing to go wrong.

:)

Read It quickly but don't really get where you mean.

Did you take any pics??

If this works, the seat community will be forever in your debt

I think he means to place the cut rubber strips behind the rubber/cloth seals highlighted here

Half correct Pew

Arrow pointing to the left is correct, but other arrow is not, other strip needs to go along the top of the window.

Yeah you open your door (should of said that lol) and place the rubber strip behind the now exposed cloth seals (the material that has a nasty habiat of attracting alot of rubbish and tiny particles off say a micra fibre cloth)

sorry no photos, as i have no camera and have no idea how to uploads them, very simple to do so dont realy need them.

Well when i used just some black cloth it made massive improvements but this rubbber i cut fits in there much better and seems to give a much better seal and as silly as it sounds looks OMP, if you can even spot it is there as it is very well hidden. Goinf to take the car out 2moz and test it properly and will report back.

So simply place the rubber strips behind the seal on the door pillar (arrow pointing left) and behind the seals along the top of the window frame (behind the wind deflectors)

Thats correct my friend and make sure you cut the rubber to fit the gap perfectly then pull the fabric back with say a pencil (thats what i used) and then just slide the rubber strip all the way across from one end to just past the side mirror. Then cut a seprate piece to run up the top section (vertically) as one strip wont bend around that tight right angle if you get what i mean ?

3520 - then just try and slide the rubber strip down past the mirror, i stopped at the mirror where i could reach no further, but you could prob with some patience try and slide it all the way past the mirror.

Not sure it it will work with wind deflectors as i dont have of know where they fit

Took car out today and it defo had made an improvment with wind noise only being heard past 80 MAH, the moise was also a fair bit quieter. Not saying this will work all meet everyones expectations by the way. All i know is before i could not ctand the noise at 60 now i can cope with the noise past 80, so i have defo seen a good improvement from the time and cost it took to do.

Im gonna give this a try tomorrow i think cause i owe u a pint if it works lol

Can someone elaborate on this a bit more? The fabric type seals you talk about... are they the ones that you can only see with the window down and facing outwards towards the glass, or where the window closes up against or on top of the door with the door open? I have looked into this wind noise myself, and I think it comes from within the mirror head, through a few small holes near the mirror bolt hole and then works its way through anywhere it can. Seat modified mine when new, as I reported it, by putting foam inserts in between the door frame and mirror to calm the noise down, which it did but not a lot. I think it was an official modification but only if the customer asked etc.

Yeah fill the gap you can see with the window down facing the outside of the glass (both acroos and down the edge of the window)

Also the gap you can only access when the car door is open, look at the top of the door from the inside with the door open and you will see the rubber seal running all around the edge of the door, fill this in also with some rubber or cloth material (but not too much or else the door may not shut correctly with the rubber running along the door on the outside not touching the paintwork)

Hope that makes sence, basically just fill in all the gaps around the inside and outside of the door)

I have noticed massive improvements from doing this, and can hear almost no wind noise (a passanger who heard the wind notice before has also confimed this makes a massive difference)

Hope this helps

PICTURES! XD

I used a thin carpet material, looked similar to what you'd coat a sub box in, worked very well, car is silent on the wind noise front, it's just road noise haha! I think as long as the material has some squidge to it it will be fine, just the nature of where it is would be best to have some give, and really really thin strips, 1/2 inch didn't fit properly to me

So you've put it all the way around the door seal and the window seal?

I took some today to confirm where it was suppose to be going but yours are better lol

For the bit along the bottom of the window is the yellow or green gap best?

As phase has shown in his picture, it should go there and down behind the fabric vertically seen below his thumb in his first picture.

Dont put any by the window seal.

The other place to put it is behind the fabric only exposed when you put your window down from outside the car. Place the fabric or rubber behind the fabric seel that runs all around the window. Hope this helps
