I was always under the impression that Yokohama are a decent brand and favoured by boy racers.

I think this sums up the attitude of a few who seem to think they are F1 drivers looking for an extra tenth on their way to ASDA. The wheelspin is probably down to driving (the crashes might back this theory up too).

I have the FK452's and have previously had cars with Goodyear Eagle F1's (usually regarded as one of if not the best tyre albeit at a price). Sure the F1's were a bit better, but worth almost twice as much for normal driving, probably not. I had the Pirelli P Zeros before the Falken's and there is not really any difference (save the price).

Besides I would call Falken and Yokohoma mid-range rather than crappy. If you were putting on some rock hard, kwik-fit specials then it would be a different story.

totally agree...

I've been using FK452's for a while, 2 sets with the leon and 2 more sets with my ibiza before. No word of a complaint and i do average out between 10-15k on them easily. I can safely say that they are well priced for a mid range tyre.

Also £84.86 for one is quite expensive.. camskill does them for around 65-70 inc p+p

Why not spend a little more (max 20 quid a tyre more) and get some Goodyear Eagle F1 Assymetrics? They are the best I had on my car and I have been through several sets including the Sessanta Vredstein jobbys.

Remember when you change tyres, you are looking at cost to change in addtiion to buying 2 sets of tyres.

Personally, I would not put cheap tyres near my car, as you will invetiably get more crappy cheap tyres than half decent ones. Tyre review websites are useful when making a decision on buying tyres as are recommendations on here although I know my opinion on the Vredsteins is different from most.

In fairness Simon I think you're being a little captious! The crashes I'm referring to are on the track not the road. I'm certainly no F1 driver. The wheel-spin most definitely was down to the choice of tyre, since putting on the P Zeros the spin has stopped completely.

If you are going to spend the extra dough on a higher spec mid range car such as a Cupra then running costs are going to be higher too. The difference in buying good quality tyres, plugs, brake pads etc etc is for me, plain to see. I won't compromise peace of mind for a heavier wallet.

I ran my last car on Eagle F1's which I thought were very grippy but wore far too fast and were abysmal in the wet. The Pirelli is a very good all round tyre and seems to serve the Cupra well.

I had falkens on my BMW, they were ****. I have full run on at moment on my FR they are **** too. 100 should buy u michelins. U know anyone with Costco card?

I was pricing tyres in Costco on Monday and they weren't £100.00

Pilot Sport 3 in Costco is around £139.00 in 225/40/18

I've used valuetyres.co.uk, decent service and cheapest price for the tyres I wanted - Goodyear Eagles

If you do decide to buy a cheap/budget tyre it'll probably be the last one you buy.....

did you get 18s and can i ask how much you paid for all 4 ?.

Sorry for late reply - Virgin / NTL has been down *again* :censored:

Anyway paid £512 delivered for 4 x 18" 225/40 ZR 92Y Vreds Ultrac Sessantas from Camskill...

BUT that total also includes 4 x 15" Avon ZV3's for the wife's Yaris... Sorry I haven't got a breakdown - had to search back on-line at my bank statements to find that total. I do know it was the best price inc. Del I could get at the time for the Vreds after doing an awful lot of searching.

Also got a great deal on the delivery as at the time: Camskill's site just said "Delivery £2.49" and charged me that for each tyre. I phoned up and argued that their website just said: "Delivery £2.49" so after much gnashing of teeth they agreed that the fault was theirs and refunded me the extra delivery costs - and changed their website ASAP! :)

Local tyre place fitted the 18"s for £34 all-in (£8.50 / wheel).

Here's a couple of places to try that i've found can be quite resonable, not used any of them but when i compared them to blackcircles they were both cheaper.

I usually use camskill but you have to get them fitted yourself, the one's below do fitting.

www.valuetyres.co.uk

www.tyreshopper.co.uk

Have used tyreshopper in the past too for my two Mk 1 Leon's; had the Avon ZZ3's fitted and were well pleased with those too after moving on from F1's.

Fair one, if it has stopped it then it has stopped it! Also, I should not have assumed the incidents were on the road, so apologies for that.

I agree about not being tight regarding parts etc for the car (there is another thread along the lines of 'how long can I get away with leaving a service after it is due to be done?' which I really do not think is the right attitude for those of you fortunate enough to have a Cupra!). However I do think that with some tyres, spending more isn't always the answer and I think the Falkens do quite well for the price paid.

You are right about the Goodyear wearing quickly, and I had no problem with the Pirelli's when they were on mine (even though they were at the end of their life).

I'm backing the Ultracs too. I paid £95 a corner fitted at my local fitter, they are a UK distributer for Vredestein. I managed 15,000 miles from mine, which had a good mixture of "spirited" driving and motorways. My colleague at work also has them on, and hes doing 35,000 a year of motorway, so I'll let you know how his wear.

im going to try either some yoko parada or some Verds next.

Love the zz3, used them on my Mr2 and they survived loads of trackdays excellent for grip.

sometimes on really cold mornings they can be a tiny bit slippy until they warm up but i dont drive hard from cold anyways.

for £79 a tyre from camskill cant really complain!

I bought a set of cheap tyres recently simply because I was pretty skint and couldn't justify spending 400 quid on a set! I find them fine in the dry but in the wet they are pretty terrible- get a slight bend in the wet and whereas my old RE050's would hold it without a problem I can feel these making the back end slide out a bit! Just means I am a little more cautious now that's all though I won't be getting the same again!
