Do it!
My car has just had 80,000 service done with Quantum 505.01 :) :)

I shall try explain;

ZDDP (Zinc dithiophosphate) levels had to be reduced due to tighter emission controls (ZDDP attacks the CAT), lower ZDDP means higher wear (chocolate cams anyone).

VW also realised that a special base oil had to be used with a special additive to stop certain parts from oil starvation.

Basically VW screwed up.

VW505.01 will do the job if it is indeed 505.01.

Mine is having what is known in the trade as a 'full fat' oil.

Well,
I am well and truly confused now gents to be honest

You and me both!

505.01 is the oil to use, it was designed to overcome the problems VW made for themselves.

Remember all new oils have two very important factors now, emission control and economy. This is very good for the planet but not brilliant for fully protecting the engine.

I thought you said that you would be using it in yours next? and you've got a Leon TDi I beleive?

Yes I am, and yes I do. But I have no warranty on the car and my CAT is going bye-bye very soon. Also if anything goes wrong with the engine it will be my own fault.

Not that anything will go wrong with the engine, the film strength on the cams for example will be 8 times stronger - and power loss through friction will be reduced too due to the tri-ester formulation.

Well I'm glad I'm not the only one!
I was all pleased with myself as the garage who did my service gave me the remainder of the bottle of Quantum 505.01 to use for top ups! Can i keep on being pleased with myself?
 :)

Proper Spec Oil a couple of months back from TPS was to me thro my Local Garage £10 + VAT for 5litres....
It was on a Special at the time tho.

TPS can supply any part for my Car at cheaper prices than going anywhere near a Dealer.

There's no F in Quality..
Picked up 5L of Quantum Platinum (505.01) from TPS this afternoon, £27.67

Asked if it was any cheaper with my CGti Card, but the guy said that the oil was already discounted

From what he was saying, they have ust revised the prices for all of their oils, with the longlife 507.00 stuff now being about £40......

thats because they are a grouped trade centre for all the area's vag dealers

great idea all VAG trade in one roof but delivery times are iffy and staff at dealers are dissapearing fast but better discounts i will admit

I know this is an old thread but went to my local TPS ,that I've used alot, to get oil & filter for my motor and they're no longer selling over the counter?

I used to get stuff delivered to the garage I worked at but I am no longer in the trade as such. I asked if they recognise trade guys through some sort of trade club, but he said the company have tightened up and do site visits to ensure proper 'trade' status.

I do a lot of private work so this has pissed me off a bit.

Anyone else had the same at their local TPS?

Sorry for hijacking mods but I was looking for oil info!!!

my nearest vag is skoda.... £26 :D i asked for 507.00 but he said it was hard to get hold of unless its serviced by them as they buy in the barrels.

I have VW dealer and Skoda local so will always ring VW for price and part number, then ring Skoda who always beat it. Got 5litres of the Quantum Platnum 5W/40 for £25.00 all in after VW quoted £8ish a litre or £28+vat for 5litres. Handy when you do your own servicing [B)]

Sorry to drag this one up again but my TDI 130 pd (205 bhp) stripped a 3k old cam belt of it's teeth causing bent valves ect and the cause is looking like ( not 100% certain yet) chocolate cams causing enough drag to do the damage.

Owned the car from new now on 106k miles. The car has had oil changes in it' early days that didn't use the correct PD oil:censored:

From 30k onwards i changed the oil using the correct oil[B)]

When my cylinder head is rebuilt do you recomend the millers CFS 5/40w or should i stick to the 505. 01 PD oil?

Cheers Chaps!
