Thought that was an interesting story the march of the Chinese into Europe
BBC News - Chinese car giant to set up UK research centre

The proving ground was part of Vauxhall motors, was their proving ground where rival cars were taken apart, smashed and tested with their own. When Vauxhall moved out it had to go its own way. Assorted circuits and tracks. You find details of that on a google. Did experience the full Vauxhall motors family day out there once. Round the bowl at 100 mph and watched a test crash. Air bags deployed etc.
Now Chery with its eye of Europe and potential assembly in the Nissan factory in the North East has seen the benefits of a British R&D facility. Just needs to get Xpeng here with their links to VW... but may be they will keep their mutual ties in Germany.

So they originally bought the Dagenham Ford plant and shipped it back to China now are interested in taking a share Nissan production line to make their cars in the UK and do a Thatcher to get into Europe using our Brexit agreement, in her case getting the Japanese in to provide British jobs and for Nissan to avoid quotes at the time on Japanese cars imported into Europe. Wheel is turning a full circle if not a bit more with the British car manufacturing crumbling.
