Cheers lads

Erm, basically, say your pulling away, and you don't give it enough power, that's when it chirps. Like when you pull away, don't accelerate enough and the revs drop to around tickover, that's when you hear it, just a couple of chirps until you give it a bit of throttle.

It's kinda hard to explain, I'm not too good with words! Looking at DMF failures though it isn't showing any of the symptoms at all.

I have this exact same "chirp/chirping" noise as well. Seems to come from drivers side only back of engine bay/scuttle tray area. Mine also just does it on lows revs as pulling away slowly? [can't ememember if does it in reverse] Can't be DMF in mine as I don't have one! I have a lighter SMF and uprated clutch.
Be a case of who finds it/cause first by the sound of it:confused:

Mines made this noise till I changed the cambelt then few months later it starts again. Sure a read somewhere that the tensioner is poor quality. Bugs the tits out of me too. Also when it really wet the belt slips loads too.

Hi All,
Glad I have found a thread to this, be it an old one. Did anyone ever find out the remedy????????? I have just started to have this problem of chirping too. All the above, described to a tee as my annoying noise. It started last week after I recently hit a newly fitted unsignposted speed bump at 40mph and dislodged my exhaust and broke the central exhaust bracket. Whether its just coincedence maybe?? Can anyone help exact the fix needed, I do suspect more towards the belt or loose exhaust connection??

BUMP!!!!!!!.......Please can anyone tell me what it is. I can drop the clutch in and drive at low revs with this chirping noise so it can't be the clutch as its already out.
Come on peeps.:cry:

i found mine done it after i have mucked about with the tensioner when doing my thermostat.

used to do it loads when in second gear going slow over a speed bump or when on full lock and pulling off

i also have this and its frustrating, it almost sounds like a bush! im gonna give the auxillary belt a go and see what like

My mechanic drove my car the other day when he changed my rear caliper, heard the chirp and said it's the fan belt tensioner.

Update to this;

Was checking hoses and fluids a couple of days ago and thought i'd try a shot of WD40 on the tensioner. Seems to have cured it for now but I know WD40 is never a permanent solution and has likely just masked the noise. I'll post a pic later of where the WD40 went if others want specifics

the belt is a doodle to change mind, the tensioner has a lug on the back get an open ended spanner on it and push down, it has a hole to lock the tensioner off while you remove and refit the new belt
