Having tried a few things to clean up my exhaust I don't seem to be getting anywhere.

Each week I'm travelling 500 miles in a diesel car so the exhaust I knew was going to be hard to get clean again ... but it is determined to stay dirty.

Any suggestions on what I can use to get the crap off and bring it up to a nice clean shine like it once was?

Any decent metal polish paste will do but if the dirt is really stubern then use the wire wool with it, just dont rub too hard to start with

I agree with them. Metal polish will do the job. Is your exhaust stainless? if not, if rust is present you should have wire wool to clean it.

[Borla Exhaust] Smoke it.

yep, i use Meg's NXT metal polish
but even if your doing 100 miles a week dont expect it to stay shiny for more than 3/4 days, or until it rains

Keep it shiny

I have always found, try firstly a metal polish with a slight cutting action. My weapon of choice is Autosol (Halfords sell it) for the cutting and always finish with Meguiars NXT to give it a condition.

Any terry towel type to apply and a microfibre to get off and polish. Be patient though, as it does take some rubbing. My shine will in normal conditions last 3-4 days before a bit of simple buffing to get back to shine.

Hope that helps. :D

I always spray some Megs wheel cleaner on mine to brake down all the soot...works a treat. If there is some residue i then use the megs metal polish.

For a quick fix...

1. Pot of warm water
2. Scotch pad
3. Immerse pad in water then get scrubbing

Brings it up really well & if you use a fine grade, it won't scratch.

I just did this on my LCR which I picked up a few weeks ago. Looks as if the pipe had never been cleaned properly, now looks like new.

Edit: scrub from side to side, not up & down as this will scratch a little.

I got some Meguires NXT ... with a little steel wool and elbow grease it brought the exhaust up nicely... photos to follow. :)

would AutoSol be ok?

when my mate put back box on mine, he put an attachment on drill to polish some of the "burn marks off" (dunno how to describe them really :D)

I gave it a little buff up but ran out of steel wool - I got some more steel wool though so I'll give it a good clean tomorrow and upload some after shots. :)

Hi guys, thanks for the insight. Based on this thread i'm off to Halfords tomorrow to get me some Autosol.

I'll practice on my sister's Peugeot 306 first to make sure I don't **** it up on my car :)
