Cleaning exhaust tip...

Right I popped out this morning, spent about five minutes and managed to achive this - compare it to the photo on the first thread... I'm quite impressed. (Dirty rear valance reflections make it look worse, but it's come up like new)

And the stuff I used...

Megs metal polish is good.

I used scratch x on my tip recently, amazing by how good that cleaned the tip up.

i know this is an old thread but could i use autosol and wire wool to get the same effect? Or is the meguirs NXT better stuff to use.

Mine is a right state and is less than a year old (and not even diesel!)

I'd try the NXT. It's cheap and proven to work.

I know this is old as heck, but i've always used Autosol previously, as I always have some lying around - and that has good effect on the cleaning up the exhaust!

Autosol is great mate, cost £6 for a tube from Halfords. Not sure where to get the wire wool though.

Any plumbers merchants, its used to clean up the ends of copper pipes before soldering fittings, they sell big bags that should last you yonks. Cant comment on any of the polishes used apart from autosol - used to use it on me bikes years ago, magnificent stuff.

I use Autosol and an old green scourer (can buy packs from the pound shop) after I have washed the car keep the scourer damp and put the paste on the exhaust tips and start working it in gently and after a couple of minutes voils nice shiny tips.

You can do it with a new scourer but I prefer a used one, normally use it for doing the washing up a few times as it softens it up slightly.

I have heard good things about people using toothpaste - as I dont have a pretty exhaust tip I havent tried it out at all. But, people I know who have used it seem suprised ?

I'm gonna get shot down here by the cleaning gurus, but i've tried, Peek, Autosol, NXT and Briliant so i can have an opinion on this, but the best i've used for exhausts is... this product you can get from ASDA, i cant remember the name of it, but its in a yellow tub which the lid twists off which holds a sponge you use to clean/polish it. Awesome on exhaust, but i wouldnt put it near any of my bling tho as its a little harsh.

just make sure its only #00 grade wire wool.plenty of elbow grease will do it.there is a two step polish and then a sealnt (britemax)so next time it will only take a quick hose down.
