cleaning inlet manifold

hi guys,

right bit of an odd one... i wanted to settle an arguement really.

My mate and i are going to polish/paint our inlet manifolds... and we have different approaches to cleaning it.

Im going to buy a spare so the car runs whilst im doing it, so i have though about a general clean using a pressure washer and then soaking it in coke overnight?? I have used coke to clean loads of messed up stuff in the past and works fine!

My mate is going to use nitromors which i think is insane as its just acid!

I want the inlet as clean as possible before i start, but my mate says that submerging it in coke would be a bad idea... is he right?

Personally i wouldnt use either...

Nitromors is fine for painted surfaces but i dont think its designed for leaving things in overnight... i cant see coke being bad for the inlet in theory but i'm not sure its the best thing for the job.

Something from Bilt Hamber might be more suited and are designed with those sorts of jobs in mind

you might be right, i used to use coke to clean brass fittings and bike chains so just assumed it would work... the really cheap 15p a bottle haha

to be honest, if your just looking to clean it externally a half decent degreaser and some elbow grease should be enough to make sure the surface is ready for polishing... the polishing stage it going to strip any crap back anyway
