Got to work at around 7am (hardly any cars in the car park) parked outside the window of my office and went inside.

about 20 mins later the chap facing the window (i sit with my back to the window) said, your car justy moved mate, I turned around and the car had rolled back out of the parking space acrros the road and into the parking space the other side

The space I was in is a slight incline so enough for the car to rollback into the other space and stop.

Went out to the car and the handbrake was in the fully down position, :wtf: so I drove the car back into the space and let my foot off the brake to see if I had forgotten to put the handbrake on when I parked it 1st time (never done this ever) but it rolled back the second I took my foot off the brake so I had def put the handbrake on.

So the handbrake must have failed and the handle returned to the fully down position.

It is going into Seat this afternoon as the car is also reversable with the handbrake in the fully up position and that ain't right either.

Bloody good job that I came in early and no one was parked in the two spaces the car rolled into :-o

Ive always had a habit of leaving my car in gear , as well as leaving the hand-brake on when or where ever I park.... but ,yeah.. spose you ARE lucky this time :)

Yeah I leave it in gear on steep hills etc, but this incline was just enough for the car to pick up speed to roll a single road width and stop.

Will always be leaving it in gear from now on me thinks, but still want the handbrake sorted ;)

Lucky escape matey!
I cant see how the handbrake returned to the down position though ..?!
My brother did that on his street once and his rolled 40 yards and into someones garden but luckily had missed a few highly expensive cars and his also didnt even have a scratch!

Get it fixed fella!!

yeah me neither unless I applied the brake at the first click (which is unlikeley) I always thought that if it had not clicked it would only drop to the next down position?

No mate, I have a full head of hair, the spikey type, LOL

My plate is my private one now and ends in AHA for my initials so keep an eye out for that one.

Just got the car back from Seat the chap was well cool, basically I must have applied the handbrake to the 2nd click and it did not stick corectly, hence it slipping to the first click which is not strong enough to hold the car on a slope, all beit a slight slope at work. It was however strong enough to stop the car rolling forward after it had rolled back

Anyway will be pulling it higher from now on and leaving in gear as well.

:)

i had exactly the same problem mine rolled out of my driveway and a car had to swerve round it, but dont forget they have disk's on the rear and when the disk cools down it contracts and maybe the pads werent making enough contact to the disk. my advice leave it in gear. :)
