Hi, i just brought my leon cupra r 4 days ago with nearly 100k on the 53 plate. Love the car but its already broke! Somthing is rong with the clutch, the pedle has gone to the floor like there is a hole in the pipe? Ive spoke to a mechanic friend who thinks it might be the master cylender? any one has any ideas? hoping its not the clutch as thats mega money. The clutch felt fine before this happend. any help would be great, cheers!

I think its as you say, its to do with the hydraulic system or a seal has popped in the cylinder itself. Any puddles of fluid on the floor? I dont know enough to say where these components are or how easy/difficult they are to change. Do bit of a seach for LCR clutch repairs, im certain someone wll have pics and a guide.

Theres no puddles or leaks anywere and i havent lost any fluid witch makes me think its a seal in the master cylinder. When the pressure is on the peddle the seal lets go and does not pump. If it was the slave cylinder im sure there would be a loss of oil?
Bin and brought a new master cylinder anyway and going to change it tonight (or try!). Ill have a look for a guide cheers,

im guessing when cold it sticks down and when warmed up its okay?? unless its rerally bad and is always doing it??
Seat will suggest a brake/clutch fluid change firstly but in reality the master cylinder is the first point of call in this situation (and cheapest too after a brake fluid change) failing that it'll be the slave which is a gearbox out job. Seat will Replace the slave for about £440inc but if you have access to a ramp and some basic tools i'd do it myself (with the clutch for good measure)

I have just had the same happen on my lcr.

If there is fluid in the footwell near the pedals then its the master cylinder, otherwise its the slave cylinder so I'm told.

There was no fluid in my footwell, new slave cylinder and clutch (no point not changing the clutch whilst its apart) sorted the problem at a cost of £489.

New master cylinder is in - alot bigger job than i thort lol just needs bleeding up now and then ill find out the good or bad news. Its not when its cold or hot, theres just no pressure on the peddle and the clutch wont disengage. If i had a ramp id do it, but as i havent and its f-ing cold on my drive i think the garage can have a go. Thort the cost would be abit worse than that, got the car for a bargin anyway so ill spend abit on it.

– Fit the hose -A- in the bleeding device -arrow-.
– Place lint-free cloths under the bleeding device.
– Apply 2 bars pressure to the system.
– Open the bleed valve carefully.
– Let about 100 cm3 of brake fluid come out.
– Press the pedal to the floor 10 to 15 times and release quickly to expel all small air bubbles.
– Let another 50 cm3 of fluid come out.
– Close the bleeding valve.
– After bleeding, the clutch pedal must be pushed several times.
– Check brake fluid level in the reservoir. If necessary top up to the correct level.

thank god it was the master cylinder! Drives lovely again now. was a pain to get in but well worth it for the money saved at a garage. Bleeding was easy - ive got one of those easy bleed kits.
Now i can focus on tuning and looks as first planed. Cheers guys!

Not wanting to be the bearer of bad news, but I had the same sort of issues... The same issue kept happening about 5 months after replacing the master cylinder - after 2 of them the garage insisted it was the slave & therfore had to have the slave and clutch done a few weeks back... set me back £550.
