When car in in neutral idling there is a lot of noise; chattering, vibrating, when I push the clutch in it stops, I can feel the vibrating through the clutch peddle too. Also ive noticed when slowing down its seems harder to get in to get in to gear, usually 1st and 2nd.

Im thinking its the clutch release bearing, am I along the right lines?

My release bearing used to clunk when cold, was ok when warmed up.

When manouvering about and changing gear alot such as parking, or moving in traffic (first gear, move forward and stop, neutral. Then same again) it used to get difficult to get into gear and particularly reverse and needed forced sometimes.

Im not too sure what the symptoms of a faulty DMF is though, this might be worth looking up. I think they tend to vibrate more which could be what your feeling through the pedal?

I'm getting a clunking noise when the clutch pedal is pressed in and out. Does that sound like the release bearing?

The clutch doesn't seem to be slipping and there's no vibration through the pedal. Just the noise so far! Any idea how much ied be looking at to get it changed / fixed?

There are quite a few threads on noises/clunks/shudders/rattles/wibbles/wobbles etc etc :p

Ultimately, they are a noisy engine and are prone to 'talking' to you, mines done it since i had it and got no worse and iv got no serious symptoms.

My advice would be to monitor it, bear it in mind but dont go jumping down to your local mechanic and let him fleece you!!

Sounds a bit more reassuring! I do quite alot of driving to get to work and home do worry about every wee noise and I certainly don't want to get stuck miles from home! I drove home 10mins ago and the noise had more less gone again so I'll def keep an eye on it, the cold seems to make it worse.

They are a noisy engine but a clunking noise that was consistent and happened every 2 seconds isnt your engine talking to you! Nor is not being able to engage gear. Mine went on for a good 6 months till it pissed me off so much that I replaced the whole lot. Uprated clutch, flywheel, slave and bearing

Find a decent garage you know and talk to them
