Clutch Slipping on my Revo'ed Cupra TDi

Garpusmentus

Guest
I had my Cupra TDi(1 year old, 13,000 miles) chipped about 2 months ago, and every now and then usually when its cold the clutch slips.....

Its not even as if I'm planting it either, it does it with maybe 50-75% full throttle, usually in 3rd gear upwards.

Anyone else experienced this?

Is it normal?

Not really sure what to do

Any help or suggestions welcome !!

Hi mate,

When I got mine remapped - it slips too :(

It's really doing my head in, but only normally slips on full throttle between 2.5-3k rpm.

I have adjusted my driving style to compensate - but it's hard when overtaking !!!!

I've priced up a few uprated clutches - and the cheapest has come in at £700 - and I can't justify spending that on a freakin clutch !!!!

Let me know if you find a cheaper solution

The real pain in the arse is that every tuning company I spoke to (Vagtech/Jabba/Revo/Big Boyz Toyz) said that they have done hundreds and none of them ever have any problems.

My car is less than a year old so I find it hard to believe the clutch is dodgy..

Is 300 lb ft torque too much for a Cupra's standard clutch???[:@]

Lots of people have had clutch slip after a remap so that is bollox !!

The torque is too much for the standard clutch - hence why most people upgrade when they can.

Mines only 18 months old & the clutch was fine beforehand.

Credit to the tuner though (Bell Auto's) - they said they could reduce the power from 2.5k+ so the car won't slip until I had an uprated clutch sorted - then they would put it back again - all FOC :)

IMO yes... 280lb ft is the max... what revs is it slipping?

mine slips in 4th 5th and 6th if under 2k revs but now ive learnt how to drive properly and feed the power in and its not done it since.

I got a custom map on mine

5% extra upto 1k
10% upto 1.8k
25% unto 2.5k
33% upto red line

It slips when booting it from 2.5k revs (when the 33% more power kicks in) - like i say I tend to drive it differently now, but I always seem to give it full throttle when overtaking, which results in slippage :(

I can be doing 2k-3k revs in 4th and just put my foot down a bit and it starts to pull and then slips, so i back off to almost no throttle and then pull away as if I'm driving a 110 !

only seems to do it when it cold though.

yup, when its cold the air is denser thus more power and more torque...

try not using thre accelerator as an on off switch!!!!

Nope, as ive done 23,000 miles on my std clutch with over 280lb/ft and no clutch slip at all :D

Yet!

I have C-C Phase 1 which seems to do the job!

Mine slips like a biatch now.

Can drive round it still though, but a new clutch is certainly in need.

Have you got an SPS1, if so try turning it to standard and see if it slips. If it does you may have cause to take it to the dealer for a warrenty replacement. Many cars that are not remapped have experienced clutch slippage so it is not out of the norm.

Unfortunalty for me there are several signs that its not standard.
I got carried away after just planning to get it remapped :(

Agreed ,, This is a problem to a certian extent even on the standard car,

There are just a bad clutches from the day they were made.
