Does anyone know if I can use coil pack part number 06B 905 115E in-place of 06B 905 115L or is this end suffix (E/L) important?

It is for a Leon Cupra/Sport with APP engine.

You can. They're the same basic part but the suffix denotes later revisions. Suffixes up to and including H had lots of failures. Latest ones are R.

I would (unless you've found one v. cheap on ebay to get you by). New ones are only £30 from dealer. You can get copy parts but they're only a couple of quid cheaper and the one I tried from partco (cos VAG were out of stock) worked OK but threw up a constant O/C fault resulting in the EPC light staying on constantly. Took it back and got refund and finally found VW dealer that had VAG one.

Well I was having an intermitent misfire on the car the other day (seems OK now) so I was going to replace all coil packs since there is so much discussion about these being a problem. Mine are the original ones I think (BREMI?) and the metal parts have all got white furring on them. There is a set of 4 on ebay (Hitachi version) at the mo for just over the price of a new single coil pack.

Yep, does look different and similar to the set I have seen. On my car with the APP engine the coil packs do not bolt down like the one shown in the link above. Think I'll hang fire for a set of the R's

Snap. Guess E is different after all - sorry to mislead. I think getting some Rs is the best bet. When I spoke to the VW part guy he said they'd still had problems with the Ls, hence the Rs ! (God knows what happened to M,N,O,P,Q !)

How old is your Cupra by the way ? Don't know if you're aware that SEAT extended the warranty on coil packs to 5 years and will swap any faulty ones for free.
