Coilovers for my Ibiza + might need partnumbers for numberplate lights (?)

Hey guys,

I found some really cheap set of shocks with springs on marketplace(a Dutch version...), but I think they aren't really lowering the car? Can anyone help with this?

They're Monroe shocks and he says they are 2 years old, came from under a 1996 Ibiza 1.4...

That's the only information there, but how can I find out if these are just standard new shocks or if they also lower the car a little bit... What brand of shocks does the original Ibiza use for example? They're 30 euros so, cheapest lowering shocks/coilies or whatever I found were at least 50.

Might have to email him anyway but if anyone has a clue, tell me...

Yeah well that's about 150 more than I would like to spend I know I'm a cheap-a**, but I think I will eventually find something for a lot less than 200 if I look really hard... And I don't mean cutting up my old springs because there's no way I will do that.

Meh, maybe... But when time would come to buy for a second time I'll probably have enough money to buy a good kit... Still, sometimes I manage to get stuff for a ridiciously low price, which is actually still good enough Same for the car... Everyone told me I wouldn't get a decent running car for less than 800 euros... But I needed less than half that by just waiting

Als I don't really want to spend half of what I paid for the car on suspension upgrades, seems kind of a waste...

Or just buy Bilstein's and leave brown marks in your boxers and the biggest smile ever when you do take the car for a spin

Be honest with the choice of coilovers out there now it all depends on what you want from them! Looks or track use.... yours are perfect for being slammed but out on track could be too soft or bouncey... my bilstein's only allow for a max of 60mm drop (I think) but for track they p!ss over the FK's I had.

To be honest I think "only" a max 60mm drop in front and 40 in the back is just fine for me. I don't want to go so low that I have to take speedbumps sideways anyway, and believe, anything more than 60 mm drop in Holland means you would have to do that...

Also might be buying some alloys off a mk3 Golf soon, seems like my boss had someone to sell their alloys for cheap. But I have no idea what kind of alloys OR for how much. If it's 50 euros or less I'ma have them, they should also be alot bigger than my current steelies(probably 16 inch he said).

Also kinda hoping there aren't wintertires on those, since I'd rather have alloys during summer and put winters on my steelies but that's for later

FWIW, I'd say in budget suspension land, a regular strut/spring setup wins every time... unless you need to adjust your ride height with minimal tools quite often...

Understand you're trying to keep it cheap, but I've never been convinced by s/h suspension parts, for the same reason I wouldn't fit somebody else's old brake discs or pads, or reuse fixings that are meant to be replaced every time you undo them.

Last time I priced it all up early Summer, I found a boxed Koni StrT kit (not officially listed as fitting the Mk2) was similar money to buying all the struts and springs as OEM, and yes there were cheaper kits, but I didn't fancy trusting my @ss to them... StrT's give a 25mm or so drop from the standard CupraSport ride, which is lower than your 1.4 already. They're probably the sort of drop you're looking for, if quite a bit more money...

Another little question then...
I saw the second hand Mk2/mk3 Golf / Polo 6n / Polo 6n2 lowering kits are really really cheap compared to what I can find for the Ibiza's... Like, the Ibiza kits I found were 150 euros, while I found some Golf mk3 kits for 50...

I know the Polo 6kv is pretty much the same basic car(except for the rear of course) as the Ibiza... I read some on Wikipedia, where it says: the Polo 6kv is designed on a modified Golf mk3 floor/chassis, and the Ibiza and Cordoba use the same floor/chassis aswell...

On advertisements on the Dutch marketplace website for some Mk3 Golf kits it says they will fit: Golf mk2, Golf mk3, Polo 6N, Polo 6N2... And since the 6KV uses a modified Mk3 Golf floor/chassis, as long as they didn't change the suspension setup, it should also fit the Polo 6KV, right?... Which in turn means it would fit the Ibiza(right?)

Here's a pic of the kit (they're Koni shocks):

It has new topbearings too... And the rear shocks are adjustable...

So the question is, will these fit on the Ibiza?! Logics tell me they should...

It's been covered a few times before.

They will fit, but because they're from a different car/ different weights etc, they won't "work" as well (someone else can elaborate/correct me lol)

Hmm... Will the difference be really noticable? Like... annoying while driving? I mean, as long as the difference in price is still more than the difference in handling I don't really mind, if you know what I mean...
