right i use mine as a daily (diesel) so dont want it to be too un impractical but still look good and handle great with a decent ride still.

what is everyones views on both and what would you recomend, be it coilovers or shocks and springs and what brand to go for??

No one say JOM`s and i had them on my mk4 golf and i didnt like them

ive just fitted some apex rdx and real pleased with them, the ride was good, and quality is real good too
 
Had the KW 40mm Lowering Springs & Shocks fitted for the last 6 months. Added poly bushes all round and front anti role bar (25mm) at the same time.
Much better in the corners over standard, but can't say I notice any difference at all in ride quality when driving normally.
 
As mentioned the Apex RDX are a great choice for the money but if your looking for more comfort then you may be best sticking with a set of springs and shocks.
