Has anyone attempted to replace the standard orange/red tft display of Cupra's (Leon) with a multicolour one similar to the optional multicolour tft/mfd of Audi's?
I am talking about the tft display next to the speed/rev counters. Is it possible to install it, does it need modifications? Can anyone - with knowledge on this subject - help?

The audi blue looks ver savvy..

Id like to ask a similar question - i seen on another forum on the display of the Audi A3 sline 2.0tdi 170bhp you can bring up the oil temps etc. Is it possible to active something like this on the display of the FR TDI?

I'd say no to both of them.. Except, there is a module you cn be which can display other info in the MFD, like temps and sensors etc. cant remember the name. Someone on here had one, and had a bad experience, but heard its imprved since.

Dan, I remember that - it was a Golf owner that reviewed it and said it was a POS.

As for the Colour DIS (Audi speak for the MFD - it stands for Driver Information System) the costs are extremely prohibitive in retrofitting this to an Audi. Apparantly it is a whole new instrument cluster, so I doubt it would be a case of swapping the red screen for the colour one... if that was what you were thinking?!

There are a number of slight differences, eg Audi's have a seperate clock in the speedo (with date!) so there is no clock on the top line of the MDF / DIS, which is great actually as the space where the clock is on the Leon is reserved for warnings only.

The red DIS also allows you to configure what is displayed by the trip computers - on the Leon you couldn't do this. There is also a seperate button for the Speed Warning (can't set it in the DIS) and there are actually 2 types of speed warning... One you can set through the MFD and one you can't.

Last but not least, radio stations are displayed on the DIS as well as MP3 track names...

So my guess is that the software has significant differences and therefore I don't think you could change it.

One other thing, if you are thinking of buying a 2nd hand cluster - they can only be recoded to a different car within the first 100,000km. Something to do with the immobiliser. And even then VAG-Com can't do it - you need a dealer. From what I can gather.

PS Those pics are from the new A4 - even less compatible than the old A4... I would look to the A3 if you are interested in this. And I don't think colour DIS is available for the old A3...

hmm ok I think I get the message. Either impossible or insanely expensive with flaky results. :( Too bad SEAT didn't invest into something like this, it would be a nice touch to the Cupra's interior.

going to sound realy daft here so bear with me

as the Leon one is all one colour is it possible that its light filtered that way ?

does anyone have a close up pic of one when it's off ? (sounds daft but will help see how the colour is produced)

almost certainly not quite as simple but years back the Astra GTE LCD Speedo assy in basic form was projected in light blue and a screen printed acetate was used to alter the colours to green/red/yellow/orange etc

after adding the sequential shift light to mine i no longer have any speedo's in pieces to decorate the welsh dresser and P my mrs off so if anyone see's a warranty/damaged/scrap/smashed up one anywhere give me a shout no matter how bad - i'll rip it to bits to see what's what and go from there.

and before you ask - yes i used to convert watches & calculators to white on black just for a laugh when i was bored ;)

the thing its, is not a simple lcd screen. Its a high resolution display. The top part, does change to organge if there is a warning. Plus its fully built into the cluster unit, which is a complicated piece of kit in itself.

not exactly nasa rocket science though and getting it apart is easy - i didnt say i was going to put it back together though :lol::lol:

My dad thought I was driving a brothel the first time he came in the car with me. A red FR with three bright red screens inside!

Happy now?

Hopefully having a little play with VAG.com (courtesy of DanGB), so should be able to add a few bits on, but still having issues finding a matching dead-pedal. Did you have one?
