Considering an Alhambra - good deal you think?

Hi all
We're considering buying an Alhambra (or similar), our first MPV. I wonder what you think of this car's price. I think it's pretty good considering:

2003 Black - TDi PD SE (130bhp? it has 17" alloys), 42000 miles full service history, from Seat main dealer comes with 1 year warranty, valeted etc - £6500, comes with all the standard extras and seems pretty loaded to me.

Although it's a few years old, the mileage is good and also it's main manufacture backed so guess I have more protection. The service guy tells me the warranty would cover turbo failure and aircon if it blows up as I've heard these are weak points.

Do you think this it's a fair price? and considering the economic climate what could I expect to haggle off the price. The sales lady has told me from the off that the price is not negotiable but they may be able to do something on bettering the part exchange deal...I'm not convinced.

I was also thinking of trying to wangle money off their Autoglym interior / exterior protection as they are pushing this but it seems very costly.

Would appreciate any guidance or tips on what other forum members got from Seat buying used. I've never bought from a showroom so not a hardened haggler and don't know what sort of margins they work, so unsure how to target the best deal???

Many thanks for any help.

Hi, i just got offered £5400 for my 05 plate alhambra on a trade in and told him where to go lol. The mileage and condition of mine should make it worth £6700 according to glass's guide, selling for £9000 on the forecourt. the one you are looking at seems an ok price as mine is newer but has slightly higher milage. the cars have their faults like any other but i havn't had any major stuff with mine. drives great and average 35 mpg and its an auto. The seats are a pain to take out if u need to compared to more modern designs with the fold flat seats but you get used to it lol. Good luck with the haggling.

I'm not surprised you told him where to go at £5400...I'll give you £6000 :D

Anyway, this all turned into a rich farce. I patiently waited for the dealer to give me a delivery date for this car which they were going to move from another dealer for look over and test drive. I chased Bristol Seat all day Monday but they didn't return my calls.

Eventually I stumbled across what I thought was the actual car on another Seat dealer's advert as I was sure I remembered the reg.

I short circuited Bristol Seat and called him direct...conversation went something like this.....

"....I'm not sure but I think your Alhambra is the same I'm waiting for in Bristol, would you mind telling when you're sending it down?"..."sorry sir, I sold that today, and anyway there's no way I'd sell that one to another dealer, it's only just come in and it's immaculate, why would I want to share the profit with them! also a car of that price doesn't have enough money in it to transport 160 miles, plus we never had a request from Bristol, plus it's selling for £1000 more!"

Seat Bristol eventually called me back to tell me the car had been sold (thanks for that) - no apology of any sort, nothing - just a kind of, ah well, what's the problem type attitude.

Problem was, I explained, was that we'd spent best part of the Saturday afternoon in their showroom listening to a load of flannel over a car that wasn't even available and never would have been available for them to sell. The sales lady still didn't seem to understand my annoyance.

"It's always subject to their sales managers discretion whether to sell or not" well thanks for that...you did worry about that as you gladly took £500 deposit to hold the car until I viewed it !!

I'll tread more carefully next time.
