Hello there.

Im after abit of help, hopefully you guys might be able to do so :)

I have a SEAT Ibiza Chill S Mk3 and I have recently purchased some new wing mirrors, however, these new wing mirrors are electric and not manual .

Obviously I wish to fit my new and swanky wing mirrors to my car (they're matching colours, soo), but obviously as these are eletrical its a little bit different?

Anyhow, I've currently got:
-- standard manual wing mirrors
-- new electric wing mirrors and wires + door cards to fit

All I need to know is, is it acturally possible to fit these new wing mirrors on and go from manual to electric? If so, what does it consist of? Where do I plug in the electrics? Fused box or somewhere else?

Sorry if this seems a nooby question.

Thanks in advance,
Dan

The conversion is easy mate the motors and mech are held in by small torx screws just unscrew and swap over just be careful not to break the glass

So I wont have to plug the eletronics into anywhere? As I thought when you go from manual mirrors to electric ones you have to plug them into somewhere?

Ill get some pictures.

i cant seem to upload pictures just yet, however - its currently manual systems and i need to convert it into electrical systems, do you have a guide for me?

Sorry I got the wrong end of the stick !
You would need to remove the door cards to see if the wiring is in place to support the mod or you would need to get a harness to wire them up and the relevant controls

getting the harness and so on would be easy for me, but where would i have to wire it too? im new with seat and ye, they're electrics are a pain i hear

I did this mod on my old ibiza.

you will need:
new door card inserts (manual / electric inserts are very different)
wing mirror switch
lots of cable
a 12v source from the car
a digital multi meter.

basically i made up my own connectors to mate to the electric mirrors, then wired a 12v feed to the new switch on the drivers door card. then spent a few hours buzzing out how the switch worked (write all your findings out on paper!)

then wire it up.

i think the whole mod took me about 1 week ov evenings to do and i really did take my time with it :). if your handy with electronics then you could easily do it in a weekend.

Okay, i have a 1.4 so ill have to wire it all myself ye?

Should i get the looms from the original car at the scrap yard and work from there? As ive got a center console screen that runs everything (ext temp) i will need to plug in the switches for passenger mirror in order for ext temp to work. Will the new switch on the end of epectric mirror be okay to go in the standard? As obviously i had manual mirrors.

Would you recommend i get the looms from the original car? If so where do the car looms plug it or wont it work that way?

Thanks for help

unfortunately the cupra wiring looms will not connect to the standard 1.4 looms.

you will either need to get the connectors off a cupra or cut the connectors off the wing mirror and solder them together.

befor i can answer anything else i think you need to give me a list of all the bits you have taken off the donor car so that im clear to as exactly what parts you have got, and what parts you will need :)

Okay. Well i now have:
- wing mirrors
- donor door looms
- all switches from donor car

How would you recomend i go about doing this?

right. first off you say you have the door looms from a cupra. unfortunately they wont be as much help as you think they are.

im pretty sure the main wiring loom in the 1.4 does not have all the functions avalible that the cupra does so you will probably have to make up your own wiring loom for the mirror controller.( i did this)

basically use a dmm http://www.screwfix.com/prods/14469/Electrical-Supplies/Electricians-Tools/Circuit-Testers/Autoranging-Digital-Multimeter?cm_mmc=GoogleBase-_-Datafeed-_-Electrical%20Supplies-_-Autoranging%20Digital%20Multimeter

to buzz out the continuity of the switch. This should be easy for you as the cupra harnesses should be colour coded from the switch to each door mirror. use the cupra loom on the drivers door if you can to link the switch directly to the mirror. You will need to run your own wires under the dash to the passanger door to supply the 'signal' to the passanger mirror.

I would highly reccomend getting this lot working on a work bench before you fit, to make sure you have all the polarities right.

you will also need supply a 12v line to each mirror (cupra's have heated mirrors) I did this by tailing off the rear screen heater cables behind the dash. so when the rear screen defrost was on, the mirrors where also on defrost ;))

Im sorry if im not overly clear, so if you need any more advice, call me or text me on my mobile number which i have PM'd you and i will try and help as much as possible.

Rightokay. Should be simple really. Make the circuit that will work the mirrors but also compensate for thr cc ext temp display on the screen.. Shouldnt be too hard.

Do you know if the circuit requres just one wire to complete the circuit or two in the connectors? Hard to explain hope you know what i mean.

Thanks for this help adam, legend

dont go faffing about with the exterior temp sensor. just use the standard wiring in your door for that :)

what i did is find the wiring for the temp sensor in the door going to the mirror (funnily enough the only 2 cables!) and chop the wires off the connector and soldered then to the new wing mirror temp sensor.

easy :)

also if i remember correctly i had to run 3 pairs of cables. to the passanger side mirror.
+ve (mirror up)
+ve (mirror down)
+ve (mirror left)
+ve (mirror right)
Return

(then the +12v and return for the heaters) and the 2 for the temp sensor.

from what i remember you need to supply the switch on the drivers side with 12v and a 'earth'.
this 12v then gets routed to which ever path the mirror switch is selected to.

so in total you will have:
+12v in
0v Ground

(passanger side mirror)
+ve (mirror up)
+ve (mirror down)
+ve (mirror left)
+ve (mirror right)
Return

(Drivers side mirror)

+ve (mirror up)
+ve (mirror down)
+ve (mirror left)
+ve (mirror right)
Return

if you do have the loom for the cupra drivers door then the wiring for the drivers door is done :),

is that any more help ?
