Courtesy cars from main dealers

this is my concern and may be the very thing that stops me buying my new Cupra :( .

I live in Fife in Scotland, I only have the option of 3 dealers to take my car to and they're all 25 - 40 miles away. None of the dealers are all that close to a train station or anything in their respective towns. If, for whatever reason they can't (or won't) give me a courtesy car and can't drop me off / pick me up from the train station I would have the following scenario:

1. drive the car to delaers.
2. get taxi from dealer to train station (fare could be £5 - £10.)
3. train home (f*ck knows what a return ticket would be from dealers town, let's say £10, could be more.)

then a repeat of the above in reverse to collect car. Putting my car in for a day could cost me £25 - £40 in travelling if no courtesy car available. Obviously this ain't a massive issue for routine services (once / twice a year) and maybe one or two warranty visits a year, but should my car have more than its fair share of probs the above could become very boring ... and expensive :-o .

perhaps the biggest thing over and above is, if no car was available for me, I'd probably have to use a day off from work for each visit ... problem car means my entire holiday allocation could be used up  .

obviously if I raise these concerns with a dealer they will very probably say something along the lines of it won't be an issue, we'll give you a loan car or drive you to train station to ensure I buy a car. The reality of what then happens could be very different.

This is what's f*cking me off, Leon is my fave car above all else, but the potential inconvenience of multiple dealer visits would be a prob, especially using days holidays every time. And before you start moaning at me saying stuff like small price to pay for a great car the reality of having to do it could really get you down.

And it has to be fully comprehensive. Your own comp. insurance will only cover you third party on a car not owned by you, and the dealership will not loan you a car unless it is fully comp. hence the charge of £15 a day. :(

Sorry you're talking rubbish here.. the cover I am provided by direct line for FREE is fully comp for the courtesy car i.e. exactly the same policy as my cupra.. otherwise I couldn't make use the courtesy car. I phone them they take the courtesy car details and dates/times when I will use it and even send me a full temp certificate of insurance as well!
If you contact your insurance company I'm sure they will offer you the identical service I make use of... however they may charge you!

Right as much as I hate Colliers, I'm going to have to stand up for them....I've had a Cordoba (3 time), Ibiza Tdi, Ibiza 1.4 and a Rover 25 off them as a loan car wil mine was in for service or repair. All I had to do was show them a fully comp cover ntoe from my insurance (direct line) and give them a couple of weeks notice....and my cupra is both
a) second hand
and
b) Not from Colliers (It's from Letchworth Seat)

Anyhow, if you don't like it, use the power of the foot and go someware else.

Lets get this in to perspective. You'll probably only going to visit the dealer once maybe twice a year for a service depending on your mileage and I've not met a dealer yet who wouldn't at the very least do a drop off and pick up from your chosen location. I can't believe that this is such an issue that it wiil stop you from buying your chosen car. BTW if you car has to go to the dealers for a warranty issue Seat UK are duty bound to put you back on the road either by forcing the dealer to supply a car or getting you one via Seat Assistance, they have a whole fleet of Leons that are leased out by Enterprise Car Hire.

I think we should all agree to disagree on this one.

It seems, all insurance companys and dealerships offer different levels of service.

Some are more helpfull than others.

If your dealer says ANYTHING that starts "I won't do....because you didn't buy the car from us" you need to contact SEATs head office and complain because it is utter crap.

Ive taken my car to GK Derby twice and on both occasions with a car not purchased from them, both times they have asked me whether I need a courtesy car or not.
