The courtesy light in the wife's Ibiza has stopped coming on when the door is opened, anyone got any ideas or explanation of how it's supposed to work? The handbook write up is a bit vague.
1) Try the switch in different positions, does the light come on at all? Have you got the switch in the right place,
2) If the light doesnt come on at all then pull the cover lense down firmly from the side closest to the windscreen, dont worry you won't break it, I've done it many times, check the bulb and replace if necessary,
3) If its none of these it could be the micro/push switch in the door, renowned for being faulty on older models, if its under warranty take it dealer and they should sort you out.
Thanks for your reply. The car is 11reg and still has warranty. I'm pretty sure the light was working fine, but I don't drive it much. The wife said the light stayed on during one trip last week, only went out when engine was turned off. The light still works, but not when opening the door. I can't see any kind of switch like there used to be on older models on the door. It looks like a trip to dealer, I thought it may be something simple.
I can switch the passenger and driver ones on as normal using their individual switches, but when putting the moveable slider switch to position 0 nothing happens when opening the door. Slide switch to the left light comes on and the same to the right. I'm certain the light used to come on when the car was unlocked and door opened. Is there a door switch on these new Mk5 models? as I can't see one.
When the slider is at 0 nothing should happen when opening the door. 0 means the light is completely off.
It should be in the following setting to come on when the car is unlocked/door is opened.
If you have it like that and it's still not working then its broken, dealer should sort it out under warranty.
Whoopee!! just tried that and all is back to normal. I kept thinking the symbol on the left ( with the car door open ) was where it should be. Many thanks for saving me the embarassment of going to the dealer, and finding the switch in the wrong position.
