I am soon having the roof of my car Vinyl wrapped. I'd like to lose the roof antenna altogether, and would appreciate any suggestions on how to best cover up to hole in the roof, once the Antenna base is removed?

For example if someone was to press the Vinyl at the point where the antenna hole is, it will ruin the Vinyl finish, most probably also tear the Vinyl into the hole!

Don't want to fill the hole permanently, just cover it so the Vinyl can be properly applied over the top.

Feedback appreciated.

Anything laid on top of the metal will show through the vinyl, you'll be amazed how vinyl can amplify tiny little imperfections.

The only thing I can think of is a thin piece of card cut into a circle. It'll be enough to support it, but you will see the shape of the card. The other option may be something like packing tape, it's not as 'stretchy' as vinyl and will support it. It'll still show through though, so cut it nicely.

Having said that, vinyl is actually quite tough, they'd have to poke their finger in quite a way before it rips. And if they do just poke it to 'see what happens', five minutes with a hairdryer will get it flat again. Then you can use the cord of the hairdryer as a makeshift garotte to ensure they don't do it again...

if you've got roof lining down, piece of vinyl laid over hole from inside, then rub outside to get rid of stickiness or cut a circle of vinyl, stick to adhesive side of patch, then place that on roof from inside..if that makes sense?

Thankyou both for your feedback, great information, much appreciated! :)

I previously understood good quality Vinyl to be quite thick, a bit like electrical tape, hence would hide alot of what is going on underneath (or at least thats what the product marketing states anyway).

I did also consider cutting out a piece of stiff plastic, and securing it over the hole with double sided tape, so it overlaps a fraction. However that is more likely to show than the suggestions you have made.

I'll consider both your options of a piece of tape over the hole, or a piece of Vinyl (or tape might work again) on the inside, with a circle just to cover from the outside, so its not sticky...

Cheers. Will let you know how it goes. :)

It's the opposite way round, the best quality vinyl is only a few microns thick. The cheaper stuff is much thicker. That's why the good stuff can be worked round corners and doesn't shrink over time, whereas the cheaper vinyls are much harder to work with.
