I would like a cupra but worried about MPG and running costs if I drove it sensible around town could I get 30 mpg I would be happy with that, my TdI 170 dose about 39 mpg around town that driving sensible but if i drive hard, down to about 32 mpg.
what about service costs, insurance, road tax and just day to day running costs

thankyou Rob.

if im honest you be lucky to get 27 ...around town and lucky to hit 30 on motorways too, im on the tfsi sport and the highest i get is 32 if im driving chilled out but if im gunning it thats another story..prehaps low 20s?

Like above im in a 2.0 tfsi fr (remapped though) and there is realistically no chance you will 30mpg from a cupra in the city. I would average 30mpg over 25 miles on the motoray at 70mph in 6th gear but if im in a traffic jam the best i'll get is maybe 10mpg. For example yesterday i had to travel 13miles home from work and after 15mins crawling in traffic and 10mins normal i averaged 22.5mpg.

I still want a cupra tho, i figure for the extra enjoyment you get out of it its worth the poor mpg

Over an average week made up of 24 1 mile journeys through town, stuck in traffic on a 6 mile journey from work 2 days a week and a couple of fun drives at the week end (about 150 mile a week) I am getting around the 28.5 MPG mark which for an hot hatch I am happy with.

impressive, i thought it would have been a right bit lower!

I normally get about 22/24 mpg on a normal week of doing a 24 mile round trip. In traffic at 40-50mph normally, but do get to gun it sometimes on a bit of dual carriage way.

As the above comments, I'd say no chance of hitting 30mpg with stop/start city driving.

My FR TFSI was getting around 32mpg on a 40 mile a day round trip that was around 30 miles dual carriageway and 10 miles stop/start city driving.

I'm running a stage 2 + cupra, and when giving it the beans i'm getting around 12 to 15mpg's!!! But on a run, driving steady the car is pretty good, averaging around 30.

My cupra just tipped over to the 27 mpg mark today, it's the first time I've seen it move out of 26 point something!! Thats with fairly mixed roads being driven on and about 1500 miles driven since last reset.

best i ever got town driving was a 20 min 40mph or so trip to work a bit stop and start and i got 37 mpg! worst iv got caning it was 16 haha

On my trip currently around 1800 miles as i havnt reset it in ages its at 25.7mpg and thats 85% town driving and 50/50 of normal driving and caining it.

So gives you a pretty good indication of what to expect ;). Remember thats over 1800 miles and stage 2+ driving.

ive got a sport with miltec exshaut + neuspeed filter and i can get 39 on a slow run but most of the time well over 30 with booting it, cant complain. Ok not as fast as cupra but very happy with it, it does the job

I do a 52 mile daily round trip commute to London. Combined with a decent run 30-31 mpg. When traffic is heavier, it's more like 25-27mpg a best. Much better than the R32 that preceded it! The enjoyment of driving it rules over cost to be honest. If you want a hot hatch you are going to get these figures.
