I currently own one of the early leon FR's with the 180hp engine.
I really like the car, decent economic and fun to drive.
Although from time to time I do some long journeys and city driving, so I would really like a DSG gearbox and my car is a manual one.
Although if I'm going for a dsg it have to have paddles..

I'm currently looking into 3 options, buying a ex demo cupra, ex demo fr 184 or simply sticking with my car..
I just bought new 16" winter wheels for the car, so I guess these will have to be replaced if o go the cupra way.

But some of my concerns with the cupra is the fuel consumption?
Would a cupra be a lot thirstier than my 1.8 tsi?
If I drive carefully on a longer journey of 200miles with mixed roads 70-120km/h it will return just below 7l/100km
The second is just that I would have to replace my winter wheels, but that is just a minor one anyway.
I like the power in my 180hp but more is always better? :D

Regarding the FR 184 I'm a bit concerned about the dpf regen since I do some shorts trips to.
Every now and then I do go out on longer journeys, but how would the car cope with let's say 2-3 trips a week with only 5 miles?
Then at least one trip a month of 200miles.
Also what fuel consumption would be reachable doing highway speeds 110-130km/h?
Would going from a fr 1.8 running stage 1 to a 184 diesel make the diesel boring?
I did go for a test drive in a 184 diesel some time back before I got my car, but I can't really remember how it was like.

Any of the cars would have the seat sound system and adaptive cruise since I miss that equipment on my FR..

I drive a new 184 manual....
if you can fit in one 200-miler a month you ought to be fine for DPF.
184 diesel is very punchy, and does rev quite easily, but do warm it up first. which is difficult on a 5 mile run....being a diesel it takes a while to warm.
round towns I get 40 mpg, mixing town and country its around 50 mpg.
on a motorway at about 75-80 mph it returns 60 or more.
this is after 8000 miles, so it's run-in.
worthy testing one again, as well as the 180 TSi.

Thanks for your reply.
How long do you have to drive the 184 to get it warm enough?
I already have the 180hp leon and I really like it.
But I want some additional equipment and the dsg with paddles :)

You can get the 184 derv or the 180 petrol in whatever spec you like if buying new. There are a few well spec'd used ones so shouldn't see an issue there either. It's all about what YOU prefer. I went from a diesel to 180 petrol because of low mileage and I'm not sure I'd ever go back to diesel but the 184 diesel is a great motor.

I'm having these exact same feeling Snowman! Very happy with my 184 but limited mileage I'm doing I kinda tempted with the Cupra 280 with DSG, and the High SatNav.

Utter madness to be thinking it but I've not been able to shake the thought for the last few weeks...

You only live once, like my wife said "this is not a dress rehearsal" If it's in your head mate you probably 95% ready to change (been there )

Yeah but It feels like such a waste of money to switch to another 180hp but with better spec..
Since I would surely have to pay atleast 7500-10000gbp to switch to another 180hp but with dsg and seat sound system..
I really like going on long journeys and driving in general.
So the perfect car would be a cupra with a 250-300hp diesel..

But if I would go for the cupra I'm a bit worried it will be to expensive to run in fuel cost..

???? I think you should plump for a well spec'd 184 diesel and fit a "Trevor" box fella. Would put it up to around 235PS www.diesel-performance.co.uk

Yeah I'm gonna go and look for one on Monday.
I actually already have a Trevor box fitted to my 180hp leon:)

Trevor box for the 1.8TSI ?? Would you want to sell it? ;)

Yeah!
Perhaps, if I change car and I cannot use it for the new one I might :)

Keep me in mind fella if you do. Been thinking about one for a month or two. Is there much power difference? and fuel consumption difference?
Soz for ambushing your thread

Sure will do :)
Yeah there is quite a lot more punch and the performance is def better. I'll send you some numbers.
Fuel consumption about the same, no worries :)

Copy that fella, thanks a lot.

the tuning box for the petrol is an far system the diesel is a crd-t hence the trevor name i believe

in the current cold snap the 184 engine takes good 7-8 mile warming up, noticed this as i looked at the oil temperature in the display on way to work

Cupra 280, if you worry about MPG then this is the wrong car for you, it's a hot hatch and fun is the no 1 priority. It can get 40+ when needed (like my at work trips) in Eco mode, but not what you would buy it for.:):):)

Not forget a 180 petrol with dsg box has the torque limited due to the 250Nm torque limit of the 7-speed dsg.
The 184Hp diesel and Cupra with dsg have the 6 speed 450 nm limited dsg so no limited torque there.

HI,

I'm currently selling a tuning box on ebay if you're interested, where do you live mate?

Well if the Cupra would consume 10l/100km or more on a regular highway just cruising, that would definitly put me off..

I would like some extra hp than my current 180, but since i do some longer journeys it would be nice to be able to use it for them aswell..

For example today i just finished a 300km trip with a consumption of 6.7l/100km on my Leon 1.8 TSI.
This was on 70-110km/h roads and some thrashing.

So all i want to know is that you can actually drive the Cupra and get a decent consumption on longer journeys..
