I watched this last night, I'm going to say it's still not worth £40k (minimum) for some off the line speed which you'd only use a few times at best unless you take it to the strip etc...

It's all down to grip for the FWD, part of me thinks that they didn't have the best tyres on it, or being the UK the best surface.

Still like is mentioned at the end, VW won't let the Golf be beaten after the MK3 being "better" round a track.

Vid made Cupra look slow, you mention tyres I see most say there Cupra came with Hankook tyres mine came with Goodyear Eagle F1 asymmetric though which I hear are better for this car?

I had a choice at the time either a Golf R but with no options so no DCC or reverse camera or a 300 vz2, I picked the vz2 as it had reverse camera lol though not sure it was a wise move now as the reverse camera on my leon is pretty useless / inaccurate compared to others I used so hardly use and not used dcc yet settings at all.

That golf R is not 320bhp, its 365bhp, its been dyno after drag with S3 was the same as with cupra, newest ones still show 340 on dyno the first bunch are 360/365bhp on dyno.
cupra is only FWD that golf is AWD active can be 4 drive all time.you need A45S to beat that

It's not just off the line.. The Golf R is a fair bit more reactive, slap it in race mode / sport DSG and it doesn't feel anywhere near as laggy or lethargic. I swapped a Cupra 300 for a Golf R MK8 and not long before October you could pick one up with DCC / paint for around 36.5K (via DTD) and on a lease it was £305 + 3700 deposit.. But now it's just madness.

I like the Cupra but for me at least the Golf R is quite the upgrade. Unfortunately they're pretty much unobtainium at this point, someone on a MK8 Golf forum who put an order in recently received a lead time of about 14 months.
