Hi I've just registered and popped in to say hello in the welcome section :)

Was after a couple of quick Cupra pointers please :)

Im looking at buying a Mk1 cupra but a bit confused about when they face lifted the mk1? was it about 2003 or earlier? was it a significant difference or just slight?

My budget is £4,000 to buy a Nice Mk1 Cupra is this realistic enough for something thats been looked after etc?

I could go up to £5,000 with a bit of Her indoors persuading :p and was wondering if this put me in cupra R terriotary? Are the R's a shed load more on insurance? than the non R or is it only slightly more?

You know how it is got your heart set on a something good but then something faster and even more tempting comes along to confuse the issue

Any pointers boys and girls?

Both nice cars, but if you have up to £5k i would go for the LCR
Long Eaton where you live brings back memories - Speedway Bike night with my mate Dave Howe :)

Off topic but that track still going?

Also which ever car you choice, both nice cars! Would sooner have the r tho

Hi bud thanks for the reply :)

I believe the track is still there but not been used for a while. I could be totaly wrong and they demolished it ages ago, I've not really paid much attention on that side of town bud.
I know they pulled the team a few years ago though so guess its not good news.

I used to go to the banger car racing next door and sit on grange school's roof ;)

happy days...lol

Regards the Cupra my thought is maybe my budget dont put me in very nice example of the R? im Guessing this is the lower end of the R's? or do they tend to start around £4k upwards? the face lift thing is confusing me as I believe the mk1's are 200-2005 with face lift in the middle? are there any links on here to the details of the face lift etc? or side by side comparisons so I can see which type of car im looking at?

I tried a search but not got much joy

Regards R insurance I'll have to check the insurance out as Im quite happy with the Cupra quote I recieved with my present insurer, but forgot to enquire about the R....doh

ita up to you dont no about cupra,s but i have a lcr and if you can stretch to get a lcr i would when i bought mine i dint want oat else.but there is some very nice lc on ie phillc, adams and some others.as for insurance i pay 450 quid a year and thats fully comp but iam:whistle: 31 now. have a look though the readers rides to see what the cupra.s can look like and welcome to seat leon heaven:)

If your thinking you might mod the car then save up and wait for a LCR as the bits you need to change on the LC are already done on the LCR.

The LCR is going to be slightly more to run due to bigger tyres and brakes but so so worth it

Cheers bud, im nearly 36 and currently pay around £300 or so with churchills on a 2000 Model year Nissan Primera 2.0 16v Sport Plus!!! asked about a quote to change to a Cupra and theres no difference just £15 admin fee :)

I will call them again and find out how much different the LCR is failing that could always change insurers, out of interest who are you insured with bud?

I have a Leon Cupra and i am 24, with 5 years NCB and i pay £600 a yea fully come with ALL the extra's and thats with Direct Line.

Bet I do :p got a feeling I might be pushing it though at £5k to secure a good one that will be budget blown with nothing in reserve

Looking around on AT, Fleabay, piston heads etc theres not much for sub £5k regards the LCR, I might be better of going for the LC and taking it from there. I do like to tune etc but not ott stuff just a light modification here or there to get the best out of it in current spec etc.

Not sure how strong the 180 LC is and what it can take etc
Think I need to have a beer with a few LC owners and pick there brains.....lol

always feel embarrased asking questions on new forums as I dont know how fed up you long time forum users get with replying to the same dumb questions.....lol

tell me if im going that way....

When a question pops up in your head just use the search facility.
These cars have been on the go for 10 year so pretty much every question has been asked already.
This saves pissing people off and having to answer the same questions time after time.

If you like to tune that hold out for a LCR, or you'll just spend money on making it like a LCR.

Will do thanks fella :)

Still cant find any info on when they face lifted the mk1 and what was actualy face lifted?

Yes mate when did they face lift the LC mk1 bumpers?
and was there anything else face lifted like lights/grille etc?

how would I tell a face lift to a non face lift etc? anyone got a comparison picture of both so I can see side by side the differences.

TIA

Nick

Do you mean the face lift bumpers on the mk1 cupra ? like difference mate to the LCR ?

And cheers for update on Long Eaton

I've recently been looking around at second hand Mk1 Cupra and Cupra R's, mostly from 2003/2004.

I'm in London area and was only looking at dealer sales so it's probably a bit cheaper elsewhere in the country or if you look at private sales. A reasonably decent 04 LC from a dealer with maybe 50k - 60k on the clock was in the region of £5k. The LCR I eventually decided on (which I've not actually got yet, picking it up later this week) was just over £7k for an '04 with 50k on the clock.

There were a couple of LCRs I found for £5k, but they were high mileage (around 100k) and weren't in the best condition. The one I'm getting is pretty much mint as far as I can tell with full SEAT dealer service history.

So I'd reckon you probably need an extra £1k - £2k on top of the price of an LC to get an LCR in the same condition.

And insurance wise, I'm 36 with 8 years NCB so that might not be the best example for you, but there was pretty much no difference between the LC and LCR for me.

Oh, and after once I'd looked at some Cupra Rs, I just had to have one and the Cupra was no longer an option :)

Hope that helps.

Gavin,

Perfect cheers bud thats helped me so much :)

I've asked about the meet fella on the midlands thread, the wait is gonna kill me....aghhh

I will be there though [B)] come and pick me up bud im only 2 mins away and ill sort you some fuel money out and some tabs if you smoke :)

I know what im like I will see one next week and buy it on a whim  then ask questions about it later.....:bleh:

unless I drop lucky (brother in the trade) I think your right chap the LCR is a bit out of my price range and Im not really looking at spending so much on a car with high mileage where I can get a cheaper LC in better condition and lower mileage for a whole lot less.

I think it might be wise I dont look at any LCR's just to be safe  and concentrate on a tidy LC which to be honest im sure will do me just fine they must have some potential?

Wouldn't worry about mileage dude. Doesn't really matter if it's been serviced well.

I think the biggest difference between the LC and LCR other than performance is the interior. The red stitching in the LCR really sets it off and with the black headlining makes it a much nicer place to be, feels more special.

Agree with DYSC 100,000k miles is nothing on these engines if been serviced regular.
I bought my Leon Cupra 4 weeks ago, and its on 95k, but i know the engines been looked after.
I understand tho if your after a lower mileage car mate

I had a l/c many years ago and loved it. Now i have just brought a lcr and love it more.
If i was u i would save a bit more cash and go for the lcr they are in a class of there own.
as insurance wise i pay £310 with axa with five years no claims
