I think that's slowly what it's coming down to. I might go to the scrap yard soon and see if I can bag a rear bumper from a crashed 197, I can have a go myself then and get an idea of what I want made.
 
think you can just buy the fins separate and fix them on to existing diffuser, my mate did that on his fiesta st and sprayed it all black looks really good.
 
I'd be interested in one of these solely for looks however. Can't see it doing a great deal for downforce but then I could be wrong. Il have a chat with my mate who is building a drag civic to see what he thinks and whether he knows anywhere that could get this made up

When you go on your next track day try the speed you are refering too (track day is in controlled conditions so will be safe). I doubt you have a problem tbh.

With rear diffusiors I believe they have to be specifically design to have a positive affect as the shape of the car and airflow around it is taken into account. This will make retro fitting one expensive and may prove pointless in the end.
 
I ran one of the big race splitters on my car for quite a while, I pretty certain it did add more grip to the front of the car, I also did a few laps around Lydden hill with it on, I cant give a comparisom though as I'd fitted a few other bit's after my first session round there.

If your car is lowered you will defenitly struggle with the race splitter on, mine rubed a lot and it's at standerd height.
 
After wtripping out my car I found under hard braking it felt like it wanted to swap ends. I have always run 33psi front and rear. I dropped the rear pressure to 30 psi with no further issues. On long high speed motorway trips its not the best time to research the cars handling as the suspension will be cold and stiff and the tyres will be very hot.
The only way to research is track days with consistent laps times. Tweek then continue
 
Just a quick update, I'm in talks with a custom body kit fabricator also about having a plastic or firbeglass version made up. They seem interested in undertaking the work so we'll see what happens.

I've pretty much binned the idea that this will be functional, if it is then will purely be by accident.
 
Jamjay - Would it be worth consolidating a list of members on here interested in the design? With the intention to encourage the body kit fabricator to give it a blast? Or not? :D
 
I've already mentioned that there are several members interested so I think they'd do this with a view to produce a few as they'll have the mould. I won't be acting as a go between but if they are willing to make these and ship them, I'll post up the company details and you guys can call them up.

They're working on a quote for me at the moment and I'll have to go and meet with them so that they can take measurements etc. It's a long way in development but you have to start somewhere, either way it's quite possible that I'll have this before a JBS manifold :p

This is looking like it'll be a one off production mind so may be the only chance to obtain one. Note, it may look rubbish though so make your mind up once I've taken the gamble and posted pics.

I think having it for its looks only is a good idea, design it properly to make sure its functional and working properly would take sooooo much development, and to do it properly you would probs need the car in a wind tunnel!

My S3 has a rear defuser on it, and one thing i've noticed on it over my LCR (and older s3's) is that it has a lot more plastic covering on the underside which goes further back, which I'm assuming is designed to assist the airflow on the underside of the car through to the diffuser, so this would also be something I think you would have needed to investigate as well!
 
Hi all, I thought that I would follow this up.

The plastic fabricator eventually declined the work on the basis that the cost would be high and without removing the bumper for some time to construct a mould, there really isn't any other way. So I contacted a local custom bodywork manufacturer, who was glad to carry out the work needed doing however the price was a huge £550 for firbeglass so I politely declined their offer. The quest continues...
