Cupra R - Mayo substance in breather pipes and oil cap

Good Afternoon,

Last night I was replacing my Hockey Puck Valve due to an odd noise coming from the intake (only on idle). I thought this odd noise (sounds like blowback) could be due to this Puck, as squeezing the breather pipe from the TIP to the Puck stops the noise. Having replaced the Puck, I find that the noise is still there. I believe this noise is coming from the engine crankcase breather, as this noise also stops if this hose is squeezed.

When replacing the breather hoses, I found that all of them were completely covered in a Mayo like substance - the sort of substance that occurs due to a head gasket failing (or perhaps condensation). Is it normal for these breather pipes to be covered in this?

Having checked the oil cap, there is some (not a lot) of this mayo like substance. I have found none on the dipstick.

So I have two questions:

1. What could this noise from the intake be? I am sure it is coming from the top of the engine, through the crankcase breather hose and into the TIP. Also the noise stops from the intake if I remove the oil cap while the engine is running.

2. The mayo gunk in the breather pipes. Is this to be somewhat expected?

Also, please note that the oil was changed about 2 months ago.

Thanks in advance to any comments!

The mayo is to be expected, I changed a breather pipe on mine last week and had the same. It's the reason people fit catch cans, so this plus a few leaks under my inlet forced me into spending nearly £200 on a catch can set up to be fitted next week. So yeah, I'm pretty sure it's normal. I believe it's the oil vapour and condensation mixing you get it on the oil cap if you do short journeys.

I'd start the engine and remove the engine cap to listen for the noise if I was in your situation, and listen out for anything that doesn't sound right.

Okay, just seemed like a lot considering i've only done about 8,000 miles since changing the breather pipes. Some of the journeys I do are relatively short, so this could explain some of the emulsion building up on the oil cap and breather system. Coolant looks/smells okay, so does the oil in general.

I've listened to the engine with the cap removed and can't seem to hear anything unusual. Just the standard blowback you get with the cap off.

I'm not sure if this slight sound (on idle) from the open cone filter has been there the whole time and i've only just noticed it. Do you have an open cone filter fitted, and have you ever noticed any noises coming from it?

Cheers

Yh I've had this issues nothing to worry about on bam engine blocked breather pipes are the usual cause! Also like the others guys mentioned go for catch can pcv delete as I will he doing next month! When I get spare money as mines had 4new boots SMF clutch and cambelt pump n damper done this month.....!!!!!!

Can you use vacumm 19mm silicone hose for the catch can or does it need to be the better silicone?
