Hey

There's a review of the new cupra R in todays sun newspaper.. long story short it gets a great review but it ends saying theres only going to be 100 Rs sold, does anyone have any more info on this?

A bit crap if there only planning to sell 100 of them..

Also states price is £23,000.

it's the new game, manufacturers are chancing just how expensive they can make hot hatches and see if they'll still sell under the banner of 'exclusive'.

In 5 years £30k will be the new benchmark for an average hot hatch the way they are all going. Spec up a Mito, Corsa or Ibiza to the max and you can crack £20k. The boardroom suits at the car companies must be sat around the board room table with 'semi's' at the prospect of pushing all baby cars up into the prestige bracket as its where the volume sales are. In the meantime we scratch around in the bottom of our pockets for change to keep paying.

well i have a current mk2 pre-facelift cupra (for last 1.5years) and im getting the "buy a new car" feeling..

and im looking around and i dont like much else tbh so im after either a cupra or a cupra r..

and yes, it comes with a lot of standard equipment but £23000 is alot of money... they should have dropped cupra to 19500 and made cupra r 21500. so im not keen on getting the R..

So much so, instead of waiting for this cupra r, iv just rang the local dealer to price up a new facelift cupra....

they tried the price hike and exclusive limited edition etc before with the mk3 ibiza Cupra R and look what happened to the numbers with that model

mind you though the standard cupra shot out the doors :p

Seems history will repeat itself again. Having tested the facelift Cupra, I'm fascinated to see how much better the Cupra R can actually be as the new Cupra is VERY good. There again the next option up is the Scirocco at £26k+ so for a similar spec I suppose it's not terrible.

I too have had a touch of itchy car syndrome and would have got a cupra r had it looked better. But after shopping about, currently the only cars i would change to are a focus rs or evo x. The evos running costs have pretty much ruled it out:( this leaves the RS....I can get 2k employee discount to bring the price down to 24k but thats still works out at 16k price to change based on a 12k px price for my 07 18k mile cupra....While i think the rs is brilliant its not 16k better than what i have now.......So for now i have scratched the itch and the cupra stays.......

Buy some mods for your car and that itch will go away ;)

24-12 = 16?

I'd love to sell you a car :D

Someone was nice enough to leave that section of the paper on the train so I read that review.

However looking at the review of Golf GTI ed 30 / Audi S3 / Leon Cupra that is on the site somewhere how much better is the Cupra R going to be? The Cupra is already quicker than the GTI ed 30 and almost as quick as the S3?

I'm sure it's not going to be several thousand pounds quicker and for my money I would go the £500 remap route and be done with it.
